Description
I should have turned right then,But I didn't.
I kept walking straight,
Through Summer's crunchy castoffs,
My eyes fixed onto the sky, and
The dark-grey plume of smoke
That stained the white-and-blue.
I walked until
I saw it through dense foliage,
I saw the red and orange
That consumed all thoughts but one,
"Idiots,"
An errant banger, a warning shot,
Startled me and I went back
And turned where I should
Have before.
Now I look out the window,
The plume is gone from my sight
But I know it is still
Burning.
