"See you guys at lunch. Try not to kill each other!"

Sayo Saotome strode away from the two grinning boys in the opposite direction.
"We'll try!" Yuuji called to her retreating back.
She walked to the art room while Yuuji and Gabriel made their way to the P.E hall. The late-spring sun shone with all its might through the single-pane windows of the second storey corridor. Cherry blossom trees were beginning to cast off their flowers, littering the courtyard below with a pink carpet. A light breeze skirted through the open windows and Sayo could feel a smile forming on her lips.
"You're awfully content", the Spectrum's voice echoed in her skull sardonically.
It was true though. Sayo was content. Oh sure, she was possessed by an evil ancient spirit, sure, there were several preternatural organisations attempting to either make her join them or bump her off and sure, her two best friends were a borderline-neurotic angel and a half-demon too irritating for words, but still. She was content. Now that she was aware of the feeling, she was almost embarrassed. Contentment wasn't something Sayo was used to.
"Maybe I'm getting too used to you," Sayo murmured half to the Spectrum, half to herself. She meant it as a joke but, in a way, that was true too. She supposed living in a supernatural atmosphere and having to fight for her life on nearly a weekly basis for eight straight months had accustomed her all the unbelievable things she had witnessed over that time period. Or maybe she was still denying everything.
Sayo pushed the thoughts aside at the same time that she pushed the art room door open. She had already promised herself, several times in fact, that she would just accept the reality she had been placed in, there was nothing she could do to change it and all she could do was attempt to survive in it to the best of her ability. She couldn't over-think things, it would lead to nowhere.
