Description
Here's another gift for DarkShoshThis is Rayl-Matrid! She's got long red hair and red eyes - of course I had to paint her. Maybe she doesn't look extremely villain-esque here...but don't we all have a softer side? ^^ So thank you for your continuous support! I really hope you like my gift!Ā
_________
Painting process: Still playing around in Photoshop. I really need to start managing the brushes I find and like and put them in a separate folder... I always forget which ones worked out nicely and which didn't... I also tried to make the lighting a bit different with a blueish tint to it. Moreover I noticed that the colors on my new drawing tablet look much more vibrant than they do on my computer screen or iPad.. so I guess I need to adjust the image saturation a bit before uploading. So many new things to learn!

These colors look plenty vibrant! Are you using the color correction tools in Photoshop to achieve the tint? Have you explored gradient maps and blending options (in the FX menu, not the blending modes)? Photoshop has so many ways to play around with color - but I really dig what you've achieved here. Super cold underground feel is just so eerie, especially with the white top!

Yes! I actually had the base done with a gradient map. I love those ^^ Then I just colored over it and then through threw on a slight Color Lookup filter (Night from Day) because I really liked the effects. That's when I decided to do the blue spot lighting etc. But I haven't explored the FX menu yet! Maybe I should take a look at it! Do you have any recommendations regarding those? And regarding the vibrancy.. I'm not so sure what to do.. Like this picture here is way too saturated now on my drawing tablet, but it looks great on the computer screen and iPad haha. I have no idea what it looks like on other people's screens..that's why I guess I need to increase the saturation and hope for the best

Wow - so much insight into the process. I really love learning how portrait artists like you shake things up and achieve depth of color and realism. I'm keeping an eye on your evolving skill and style and making guesses as to how you pull off such impactful lighting and presence!

I kind of feel we have to have another talk about Mermaids.

The neon or blue lighting makes me think of either a nightclub or outside on the busy streets with alot of advertisement screens.
It looks lovely, amazing lighting everywhere, behind her and on her face, love the red hair and the facial features too

Every piece you do is even better than the previous! Stunning work, I feel like the blue lighting gives a more calm feel, but her red eyes gives hints to her Villain ways (though I guess not all red eyed characters are villains). This is really lovely!

I have no idea why, but this picture makes me think of this song: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUtN2Y⦠. Anyway, looks as if someone is looking at her for the first time either in a dream or perhaps the whole "love at first sight" kind of thing. This would put a twist on the latter scenario with everything being dark in the background...hmmm. Also, I wonder what she's looking at since it looks pretty shiny/glowy. Lovely piece as always . Hmm if you figure out how to remember what brushes work and which don't, please let me know because I always forget too

And yes that scenario would be fitting Ā

Haha yes I guess I had all of them ^^ 2 years ago I found the CDs in the basement again and listened to them once more before giving them away for good. It was so much fun and I still knew all of the songs (even the Japanese ones - they were the best). When I was a kid I used to sing along with the Japanese lyrics Iām pretty sure everything was absolutely accurate ^^Ā

Ah, have you seen Sailor Moon Crystal then? I'm so behind (didn't even finish the first season yet), but it's good. It's more based off the manga. Basically, it's like a Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. Ooo any particular favorite song from the CD? Because of my brother I memorized MANY Japanese songs (although I can't remember them that well anymore). Most of which were from anime.

She's amazing. I actually really wanted to see your version of Rayl-Matrid. And the blueish lighting looks great on her Ā
I think she's looking quite evil. She's got very villain eyes.Ā Ā
And I'm happy I'm not the only one who has mess in PS brushes. Same story, all the time, "where was that super-textured brush I liked so much?" and 10 minutes of "nope, nope, nope, it's not that brush"

Thank you, thank you!!! I love her so much, there is an aura of mystery between the blueish hues and her red hair look wonderful in the darkened setting But really, her eyes and their dual tone are so captivating, I just can't but drown completely in them
I love whole composition and she looks definitely not an angel, rather dark and not caring and even indifferent for the lives of others than goody-goody
You are amazing, thank you so much!
