26/52 #1page1week #1p1w , and I can't believe that already half a year has passed. Man, why do I have the feeling that I've overslept half of my life???

Anyway, here's one more commish for my friend AudeS , which is an illustration to his project "Fatal Radiance".
I've wanted to draw this picture for already long, as AudeS most often came to me with several options to pick one from, and I was really interested in taking this exact idea, but eventually I gave my preference to something else that that moment I imagined more clearly.
So happy now that this option wasn't taken by anyone and finally got into my hands

Here we can see the project's character who's name is Tychon. He is a docile, kindhearted and dutiful red fox fated to grow up as a slave because of circumstances. I'd say, Tychon has to face the fate that in fact isn't his at all. But hey, AudeS surely can describe Tychon's story a lot better than I can, plus I don't want to give spoilers to another person's project. So in case that you're interested you better come to his page and wait for the moment he shares some info with you^^ And I swear it's going to be interesting.

What else should I add? I'm happy with how this picture turned out. Despite that the paper that I picked for it happened to be weird, the drawing still looks quite presentable. I just need to remember next time that this paper is more suitable for doodling or doing colour tests, and for more serious work I better use my usual sketchbooks. A while back I just found several almost completely clean sheets in my archive of really ancient drawings, and I decided to start using those, of course; well, I cannot say that it was a bad decision, but compared to the paper that I got used to this one happened to be weird - at least because the ink linework fragmentarily erased together with the pencil sketch, lol, and because it wasn't very easy to do clean shading.
However, I won over the situation and now can have some deserved sleep.

Have a good time!~

OC Tychon (c)

Cool looking fox character there!
Wonder what he's pondering... he seems deep in thought...

Thank you!
He's most likely experiencing some kind of internal struggle. He doesn't feel himself to be um... himself? I believe that the description to this work on AudeS 's page can give you a clearer explanation, in fact^^

It's a great commission you made for AudeS. I actually didn't know it was drawn on such paper until I looked at it closely. You drew Tychon very well here along with the broken mirror and the fancy frame.

This looks awesome! I love all the detail in the mirror -- the shading and intricacy of the frame and the shatter effect. My god, I especially love the shatter effect. How did you color that? Googling images?

I also like the expression on Tychon's face. He looks angry. Angry that everything he thought about himself was just part of the machinations of a higher being. Fantastic work!

Thank you!
Nah, the shading came out mainly intuitively, as always, but for the mirror's design in general I really used some pictures found on Google, kind of to understand what could be called a Roman design^^

AudeS [2017-07-03 12:01:08 +0000 UTC]

Well, actually Shattered Identity was only the title I had in mind for the title of the picture. His plot is still within Fatal Radiance. Anyhow, I am glad this marks the half-way mark. Now the other half should be a piece of cake.  ANd I am glad that I could save this one for this moment. I find you drew Tychon just perfectly, as his appearance is certainly in touch with how I have him in mind. Since he is a fox, naturally athletic, lean, and handsome with a face that is finer than that of for example Vidar or Aldric. Overall I would describe his appearance as that of a beautiful man, calm and easily lost in thought about his own life. Not in a way that is particularly depressed, but very much questioning the circumstances that lead to his very situation. He himself is responsible and yet not, that is the anomaly of his existence, of a fate that was changed, because of a desperate wish of his old self. A wish to not only end his life, but to have it never happen in the first place. A wish granted by Danica, though the equilibrium she created in this pact was a different being born from the same root, a fate altered, twisted, and changed. I find his expression certainly tells about his own confusion, being unsure if he himself even is more than just a replacement, a leftover of a man who no longer exists.
I also have to appload the mirror's general shape, with its many lovely details and the fine work on the shadow. The broken glass however is the most impressive, I would say, as the broken perspective of Tychon and the countless splittered reflections caused by the many fraction of mirror glass (ergo the cracks) all look very real.
And naturally, the pelt and clothing of Tychon are very lovely to look at. His fur got a fiery red tone, and it perfectly goes over into a dark brown at his feet and hands. Not to mention the tips of his ears. Same goes where it goes over into the white of the tail tip and chin. And overall it is all pretty fluffy looking, and the way his fur falls on his head also got a lovely touch to it.
His clothing meanwhile does go well with the color tone. It stands out just fine from the red of his fur, but also has a lovely soft detail to it. One can even see a hint of his physique when looking at his upper-left back.  Plus, I like the sandals you chose, they really fit the appearance and clothing style.

I'm sorry, I believe I misunderstood you there, my bad. I surely wouldn't have made such a stupid mistake if I have had a chance to read more of your works.
Fixed everything~

AudeS In reply to Amaryllex [2017-07-03 12:27:15 +0000 UTC]

Well, I just put the title next to his name, so that would have been the reason. So, it is not quite so problematic.

Still, once I find time I really need to go to your gallery and read at least a couple things. It's already something like a tradition to keep your submissions unread in my inbox in hope that the nearest future I come to them xD
But I'm glad you like the picture. I'm happy with it myself as it came out rather good despite that it has three things I've never had enough experience in: perspective, reflection, and symmetrical ornaments xP

It is understandable however, given how long the chapters are. Hence why I will reduce page numbers in future projects.

Amaryllex In reply to AudeS [2017-07-03 12:49:06 +0000 UTC]

Naaah, it isn't about the number of pages, it's more about the attitude to reading in general x)
In my opinion, a good serious book exactly has to have chapters of at least 10 pages each, so the number of pages doesn't scare me at all. The thing is that I can't find time to read in general. My co-author has been waiting for me to read their chapters more than half a year, and my other friend has written a fanfic that I'm supposed to beta. In case of the first the chapters are long, in case of the other some barely take a page. Still, I find no time for both, heh, I don't have it even to re-read my own chapters XP

Your pics just keep impressing me! ;A;
All these colours...they look so natural and intense!
I'm in love with that mirror! The ornaments are just beautiful and well-detailed!
I'm asking out of curiosity...what kind of tool did you use to make these cracks in the glass??
I love how they turned out!
