Description
Woke up rather early this morning and decided to do a little drawing -- although this turned out a bit closer to sketching, really. I got rather sloppy in several places.I thought about painting in some stars but decided it was busy enough as it is.
This little pic marks a new discovery for me... hoo boy, you're going to laugh at this one... I finally realized that I can use a brush to black in large areas.
Original is 4x4", 4 or 5 hours, rapidograph and brush on bristol

Again, your Flag designs are equally as EPIC as the ships themselves.....

THIS IS BUEATIFUL. THIS IS WHAT I LOVE TO SEE - LOTS OF SHIPS. THEIR ONE OF MY FAVORITE SUBJECTS.

It looks absolutely great. I won't even ask how you managed to put all the tiny little details that make the picture look so good. At any rate - that's a very beautiful boat... err, ship ^^

Ink and brush is love! This is a beautiful drawing. Love the starkness of the contrast between black and white.

Hopefully I'll summon up the courage someday to actually draw with the brush instead of just using it to fill in black!

Thats really captured the essence of piracy... I think i'm right in saying that small fast ships are a more realistic corsair choice than huge 100 gun things...
I dont think its fair that you can just get up and do that!
I had a similar revalation when i was trying out pencil with pen. I could put then pen on last and clog it up and ruin it... or I could put it on first... theres a thought. I felt kinda stupid.
Great work anyway!

Indeed, most pirate craft were on the small side... historically the largest european pirate ships were at most sixth-rates (frigates usually) like Edward Teach's Queen Anne's Revenge.
Yeah, I felt pretty stupid when I realized I could block in ink with a brush. It was definitely a "durrrrrrrh" kind of moment, coupled with the thought of how many hours in the past I'd spend painstakingly layering rapidograph strokes.

I was recently introduced to some (to me) new techniques with a brush and ink and WOW has it changed my style!! I've fallen in love with the brush and my Radiographs are collecting dust!
This is fabulous. I love the details and the whole mood of the piece. Great work!

Thank you!
Hopefully I'll have some time to start experimenting with brush and ink soon. Unfortunately the only brush I have that produces lines fine enough for my taste is my sole 0000 sable -- either I fork over the money for a new lot of detail brushes or I start drawing larger pictures.

Honestly, you don't need a lot of brushes. I've found that my fine point #6 sable round produces a wonderful variety of lines. The ink portrait I did of Andreas (titled "The Evidence of Duty") and the second Batman comic panel I inked were both done with only that brush (although I used technical pens for some of the straight lines on the Batman page). Experiment and I'm sure you'll find that a single brush can be amazingly versatile!

Many artists seem to use cameras to capture paintings. A camera can produce decent quality images if you know how to use it... I don't really know how to use the one I've been using, but everything in my gallery has been photographed and not scanned.

Well, I really like it. I love the monochromatic sort of thingy you have going on It reminds me of a lino cut. Ever tried one of those?

Not since high school, I think. I remember it was a lot of fun to do. Somewhere in my "ancient crap" files I think I still have some of the prints from that cut.
