Description

My reasons for liking this and any horse drawings is that it reminds me of when I owned horses when I was very young. I took for granted how hard they are to draw since I always had horses to look at, but once they were all gone it has been hard! I've yet to ever have a sketch book on hand when around horses. Beauty is just hard to replicate.

Thank you for the
You were fortunated having them around from so young. I think those things help to love horses (and any animal) in all your life. Drawing them is hard to do, even when you have some refference. So yes, beautiful things usually are hard to draw. I hope this may help you; it's in Spanish, but the types (Arabian, Sport, Baroque, Draft and Pony) are clearly definited, or I hope so

There's rumor and legend about horses being introduced to the Americas by shipwrecked Spanish ships, so I very well may have been surrounded by Spanish horses most my life. My horse was an Arabian/Mustang, so I'm partial to those breeds. But really, a horse is a horse, no matter the breeding, and I love horses regardless.

Ah, yes! I remember your drapple grey horse from childhood. It was an interesting mix and really cute. I agree, too. Just love the horses, no matter which type or breed, they still being lovely.
And yes, you're right. Horses arrived to America thanks to Spanish and Portuguese ships. In the begigning, the natives from the actual Mexico, thought horses and horsemen were the same being, till eventually they learned horses are a diferent being, an animal. At this point, the natives were forbbiden to ride horse because obvius reasons.
The interesting fact is many local breeds from Spain and Portugal are almost extint here, but their descendants still being alive in America. Quarter horses, for example, are closely related to Losino breed (a Spanish breed that is really though and always black), and the Campolina horses from Brazil look like a mix of Lusitans/Sorraia, so they may have strips!
