FAQ:

What material did you use to make them?
~That material is called Clothing PVC available at syfabrics.com!

How much fabric?
~Depends on your legs. Pretty much, fold the fabric in half over your leg, and cut about 2 inches away from the knee down.

How did you make the pattern?
~Okay, here goes.
-The fabric was wrapped around my leg and I pinched the two sides together.
-Then taking a piece of chalk, I traced from my ankle along the calf to the end, which is why the pattern curves.
-Then, I took the pattern and added the two boot straps, plus the top of the boot with the curvature, as well as about an inch of seam allowance in case you mess up.
-Cut out the pattern, folded it in half (the good side of the fabric on the inside) and sewed it on the sewing machine.
-Then turned it right-side-out, and there you go.
-The only bad part about these boot covers is that you have to put them on your leg first, and then put on the boot, and fold the covers over the boot itself. Then you button the strap. And actually, right now I'd recommend velcro!

NOTE: The silver outline was done with sharpie, though I would not use it again. Instead, go for fabric paint. The sharpie doesn't dry right and will stain the fabric if touching it. Not good.

So there you have it. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for the favorites and comments you guys. Didn't think this would be that popular, and I'm just happy to help.

If only I knew how to do it in 2008, it would have been perfect for my Axel Cosplay... But it is not too late! 'Cause I still intend on cosplaying the Orgy for a long long time! ^_^ Thanks for the tips! Big hugs!!!

Wow, this is great! I have a question if you don't mind me asking. A friend of mine in going to be doing a cosplay with boots that are over the knee type of boots. my friend is thinking about just buying some but, it proves to be more difficult then it seems, (especially at a reasonable price). Do you think that this type of boot cover will work well for over the knee boots?

Amorius In reply to WiseLoad43 [2013-01-04 06:24:41 +0000 UTC]

I think it could be done if you had the right fabric for it. I'd definitely check around for more boot cover tutorials before trying though, as going over the knee might require a completely different method.
Good luck!

That's actually really helpful for creating leather bootcovers/spat-type things. I like it how you didn't cover the entire boot but just made a new top. Looks great!

Hi. I have a quick question, do you think the basic idea of this tutorial would work for making lace up boots. I'm planning a cosplay that needs lace ups and I have shoes that could work but they only go to my ankle.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Amorius In reply to Rainbow-reaper [2011-02-28 09:39:33 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. I think it might. It'd be a little tricky trying to duplicate the laces, and the fabric would have to be either thicker or doubled over, otherwise the laces would crumple it. But do a good job replicating them, and I don't think anyone would notice it was really a boot cover! If you succeed, let me know! I'd like to know how it turns out~

I wonder why this hasn't been mentioned as an alternative boot cover. At least this way, you don't get a front seam. Fav'd for ingenuity.

Man, I wish I'd stumbled into this before I tried to make Ramirez's boots . XD If I ever make another go at it, I'll do the strap-button thing for sure!

Amorius In reply to Aroihkin [2010-05-12 20:32:37 +0000 UTC]

Ohh man! Those boots require much more than just flimsy fabric! Those are insane~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aroihkin In reply to Amorius [2010-05-12 23:22:18 +0000 UTC]

Well yeah, but attaching them that way down at the bottom would be an improvement on what I was doing at the ankles. XD The rest was coming along fine at the time.

The only bad thing is that I can't order the PVC from syfabrics.com since I don't live in the US and they don't sell that same garment here.. uhh.
Thanks again anyway so much! 8D

your leg looks bout as big as mine , so how much fabric did you order?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Amorius In reply to LizzytheMimzy [2009-12-01 07:44:03 +0000 UTC]

Well~ I ordered 5 yards for the whole coat o_o
And the two legs took maybe... a yard and a half, less most likely, but I did do a couple of mockups first. I'm estimating at a piece of fabric for one leg at about 2ft by 2ft. Maybe less even. But I'd buy more just in case. <3
