Watercolor study of painting of contemporary painter Alvaro Castagnet. He is one of my favorite painters.

One of the challenges I had with this study was to reach the dark values in Alvaro's painting. I applied the watercolor paint quite thick but the colors started to look chalky as they dried. I don't if the chalkiness is just because my watercolors are of poor quality, or if watercolors should not be applied too thickly. If you have any advice on how to avoid this, please leave a comment below.

There is a lot more that could be improved in this study, but I still think it came out a little better than a study I had done back in 2021 of a painting of Joseph Zbukvic, another watercolor master painter: www.deviantart.com/ana2mars/ar… . At least this 2nd study seems to have a bit more "atmosphere" than the 1st : )
