If he were to put a perfectly placed shot down the main gun, I'm pretty sure he would pull a Luke Skywalker on the tank and cause it to explode

A .50 cal. with titanium insert in a plastic sabot.Β  Once fired a small rocket sustainer kicks in after 50 meters downrange.Β  That would be the one way I can see in using this weapon.Β  But what does he use for sights?

Unfortunately, that rifle is probably useless against the frontal hull of a Tiger. He'd have to beVERY lose to puncture 100 mm of solid steel.

you know, if everyone could be crazy in a war, i dont really think they are going to take a Tank head on ,even with a rifle like this. Β

even, flanking would be much greater idea, and aim down for the exposed mobiles parts to cripple it.Β

If i recall the US didn't use anti-tank rifles during ww2, the british and the british commonwealth used the BOYS anti-tank rifle and the soviets had the PTRD and the PTRS

Sorry man, a ww2 soldier with a barret 50.cal?? Shit the tiger resist also the sherman, and that man is a tank hunter? Beautifull work, but he can't be a tank hunter.

I think, to hunt the Tiger-tank you need more than a rifle. The canon of the Sherman (I mean not the Firefly) was bigger than it, but useless again the Tiger.

Yeah - WW2 uniform, funky googles and an M82(called after the year of designing - 1982) is freaky.
It was btw the first american ATR, russians used some kind of ATRΒ΄s in WW2, but this was more a cannon with a bipod......WW2 tanks can be killed by a .50 HMG(and M82 uses the same ammo as this most known BMG .50 just with more power and precision)

What "Tiger Hunter"? From this Tanks bounced a lot of Sherman Ammo off... Most of them had technical defects, or they caved in, because they were too heavy. A hit from that Thing wouldnΒ΄t be heared inside the Tiger. But nice Paint and Picture!

TempleGuardian In reply to alreadybeenclaimed [2012-02-08 17:11:41 +0000 UTC]

Tiger Hunter is from a mission while or soon after D-day. Behind the shore of the Normandy were a lot of big hedges, where nothing could enter or leave the roads. And on those roads the German tanks moved. At first it was bad for the allies, but soon they began to hide and do surprise attackes with bazookas. And the nickname of it was "Tiger-Hunting".

Great piece of work, I love the mixture of old and new. "Tiger hunter" though?

Maybe more like "Kubelwagen hunter" with a .50 rifle.

I don't think so, the PTRS-41 is a Soviet weapon. And I think it's a very nice idea to modify a Barrett and make it more "World War 2 style".

Anyways, the pic is great. ^^

i wondered if it was a Barret too for a sec(wtf) but i remember those other clunkers like the Boys Mk.1 and such. i wouldn't want to try it on a Tiger for damn sure. anyway very nice work, have to check out the rest of your gallery.

A .50 caliber high velocity rifle might be able to pierce the top turret armor. A tiger (pre-1944) mounted an inch of armor on the top of the turret. If you used an AP round, you might be able to pierce an inch of steel, but probably only at a range of 800 yards or closer, a difficult task, for sure.

warman707 In reply to Michael-18 [2010-05-04 07:08:11 +0000 UTC]

Very true. Although the anti tank rifle could pierce early war tanks armor, the thicker they got the harder it was to take out a tank. But there were other ways of taking out a tank with the anti tank rifle.

One way was to hit key joints and spaces on the tank to make it imobile. Like the point were the turret and tank body met. Shooting there would stop the turret from turning. Then they would shoot the treads to basically render the tank useless. haha!

I'm sure you knew all this already, but once I start on a subject I tend to carry on. haha!
