Description
*featured here: [link]Undoubtably my most complex piece yet.
Here's the think about abstract: the enemy is not inexperience, the enemy is too much experience. Don't get me wrong- it takes a solid artistic background to make good abstract! But then the artist should let go and let instincts take over.
The moment that the artist tries to override their instincts is the moment that abstract loses its power.
Peace-
Andrew

love it! and great point you made about the importance of instinct. i'm not sure if i agree about too much experience being the enemy, though. i've seen some amazing abstracts from some very experienced artists who don't seem to let that experience hinder their instinct. of course, i have very little experience still myself, so i'm certainly no expert on the matter. i would agree, though, that emphasizing experience too much while neglecting instinct would be a disastrous mix for the abstract artist.

I agree. I am NOT one to say that 'anyone can do abstract, it's super easy, you just draw whatever you want!" I think abstract can be much more difficult then representational art. However, many times we let distracting, conflicting thoughts get in the way of making beautiful art. Artistic experience is great, but still limiting if you just stick to what you know and don't allow the art to push you.
Thanks for the awesome insight!

i totally agree about the "distracting, conflicting thoughts."
interestingly, i stay busy pretty much all day. the only time i have for myself, to do art, is after the rest of the family is asleep (it's 2:30 a.m. right now). i need very little sleep to be ok, but my mind is sort of like jello in a lot of ways by 2 or 3 a.m., so i honestly don't have too many thoughts of any kind at that point. i have no choice but to let my art be instinctive.
