Description
A little vignette inspired by the art of Frank Frazetta:
The degenerate Krofi were in the main eaters of insects and carrion -- except on rare occasions when indignant Fortune made them a present of some particularly foolish trespasser. Such trespassers were almost always valley people: soft, ignorant… and noisy. This one had wandered away from her caravan, searching for exotic desert flowers and singing silly songs until she found herself trussed to a Krofi butcher post.
Oran shook his head as he recalled her frantic squealing. City girls, he knew, had a curious terror of being seen naked, even in front of creatures barely more intelligent than animals. The Krofi were the worst sort of barbarians, but trial and error had taught them not to eat clothing.
Fortunately, the sun had begun its descent by the time they had shucked their prize. Whether by custom or by experience, the Krofi would not feast after dark, the chill of night perhaps being too much for the cold-blooded ones’ digestion.
Oran waited. The longer the night wore on, the better his chances of freeing the girl and leaving the Krofi camp unnoticed. Finally, at the first hint of dawn, he made his move. As a shadow, he flitted to the butcher post and deftly cut the semi-conscious girl’s bonds.
Oran cursed inwardly when he saw that her shoes were missing along with the rest of her raiment. He doubted that she would make it more than ten paces before her tender feet surrendered to the flinty stone of the Sundered Lands. The young buck gritted his teeth and hoisted the girl over his shoulder, at which she snapped fully awake and started squealing again. Now the fun would begin in earnest.

A shoutout to ScalerandiArt for reminding me what a great artist Frazetta is and to ginnunga-gap for turning me on to some very good music to paint by!

You did a great job... Immediately it reminds me many action pictures and Frank Frazetta like styles concept
The artwork is action-packed and vibrant/eventful. Everything is instantly understandable. It has everything you need.
Somehow in addition to the seriousness of the picture, the woman's and the lizardman's (with axe) facial expression" is funny. ^.^ I like it so much.
Hmm... Simply just good to look at this work. Thank you. ^.^
Entertaining and nicely led background story. ^.^
But why did she start screaming? (This is just rhetorical question. Millions of reasons can be listed.
) Maybe not a good or nice thing/act... but if he bond her mouth... then the situation would be easy for him.

Thanks very much! I am really happy to hear that everything is clearly understandable -- I think such clarity is one of Frazetta's great strengths as a narrative painter and I am hoping to learn something from him in this regard. The painting I used for inspiration is this:
As you can see, the story is very easy to understand and we accept it without thinking too much about all of the strange anatomical and geological problems that actually exist in this picture (for example, where are the feet??). Frazetta knows exactly what are the most important and compelling gestures in a scene like this and the rest does not matter
On the story, I imagined the girl was befuddled and half-asleep, and so when our hero had to pick her up, she assumed that it was just another lizardman, who is maybe going to eat her. So she screams and rouses everyone in the camp. The picture then shows what follows
Thanks again!

I really love this one! In my Fur World stories, the Reptiles and Amphibians -- collectively the Scales -- rule the tropics. The first story revolved around a Hy000min who creates a portal between his world and theirs, and encounters a number of Furs held captive by reptiles led by a beaded lizard.

Thanks! I haven't done much with reptilian characters, but I'm beginning to see their potential. Have you posted the story you mentioned? Would love to check it out sometime!

Bits an pieces of it. It's more than 20 years old and sadly dated. I need to do some renovation before I post it.

Thanks! I love Frazetta -- He's so wrong for our time, but the man could paint. You know that I study him only for technical reasons, right?

Thanks very much! This is great to hear -- I tried to follow the Frazetta formula on this one and I was pretty pleased with how the characters fell into place. Now if only I could actually *paint* like the master!

Thanks very much! Frazetta had a certain recipe for this kind of image. It obviously worked well for him, so I looked at a few of his paintings and tried to follow their general pattern. A great learning experience and I think I did better than I might have had I not studied Frazetta beforehand.

Yes indeed -- Frazetta had a "formula" that he used often:
1. a single hero on top of a mound
2. several antagonists, usually subhumans or barbarians
3. a naked or near-naked girl, usually crouching
Voila! It's perfect!
