Description Father Time is the personification of time itself. He is commonly depicted as an old man carrying a scythe and an hourglass or other clocks. Father Time represents the passage of time and the bringing of things to an end. He is used in New Years Eve celebrations to close the year. He is also sometimes shown as the partner of Mother Earth - she represents life and he represents death.

My first challenge for - the Men's Portrait Challenge. I've been struggling over which level to submit this at but after reading the critiques from the last challenge I have a clearer idea of where my strengths and weaknesses are so I've decided to start at Level 2.

I thought you did a very good job creating your own version of a "Father Time". Yours was one of the first deviations that came in and I was very please to see something that was "out of the box".

Very well done for level two. It is a good representation of Father Time and how he follows us around robbing us of our youth!

I would suggest using a drop shadow just to add depth. I realize this is a surreal piece, which doesn't require a lot of shadow, but I would still recommend some around each stock on separate layers just to make the stock pieces blend in more together.

Thank you

Sometimes I feel like I've jumped into trying to learn new techniques without mastering all the basics first (call it a mix of enthusiasm and impatience ) Lighting and shadows are elements I still feel somewhat uncertain about - one of the reasons I joined (and started at level 2) is to learn and improve!

Thanks for the feedback

You're welcome. I've gotten SO many hints from members over the time the club/group has been around. I still get input on my deviations and it seems like I learn something new every week!

You have managed to make the wizard look like he is reminiscing in this image - therefore I don't see him as Father Time, and I am not sure you intended him to be as you have simply named it 'Time'.
A well put-together manipulation and a stunning end result.
Good luck

I often find my pieces start with one idea and morph into something else as they evolve. This piece started with the concept of Father Time. When I look at it now I see a strong sense of the passing of time, memories and regrets, the lessons we learn and the way it changes us as people (themes which are all very strong with me), which is why I chose to give it the broader name of "Time" I often think I start a piece with my conscious mind and finish it with my unconscious

I'm glad you were able to see a little deeper into the image Thanks for the comments

A very nice piece! There is lots of detail and interesting things in this piece. I would play around with lights and shadows now and add some textures. Terrific job! Good luck in the challenge.
