Description
"For my world is the the world of science-fiction... Conceived in my mind and placed upon paper with pencil and ink and brush and sweat and a great deal of love for my world. For I am a science-fiction artist. My name is WOOD."
A study of Archigram, the avant-garde architectural group, based in London and active during the 60s. I find their unconventional idea of architecture really amusing and inspiring.
Sketched with pencil and ink.
You will find more sketches of this study in my blog here .

These kinds of bizarre and wondrous takes on nature are among some of my favorites. Here it looks like the tech itself somehow merges into the machinery that's doing the heavy lifting, if I imagine what looks like a hydraulic piston or boom as also being a tree trunk. The machine's base is pure tech but in a natural state, not super clean but like any other decently maintained utility structure. The visible guy-wire/safety station has a rather intriguing shape too.
Of course the neatest thing is the wraith-like tangles of the piece being raised, perhaps waiting to be filled or built-up however once it's stabilized. The straight drop lines are kind of neat, though I suspect they may simply be for reference in the study. They make a nice grid at the bottom where I sort-of see that treetop I mention above.
Then there's the sweet fact that the whole large field and groves are all free-hanging in space too on the page.
BTW, is that a person leaning against the thin "mast" that rises to the point at the bottom of the part being raised?

Wow.. Your analysis makes me feel kind of stupid.. Because I made none of these syllogisms while I was working on the piece.. I just started sketching.. And I liked what I had.. And then continued sketching.. And lines and forms was all I cared about.. And then you come and make all these interpretations.. It seems you have some talent in observing things, finding the story behind them and then putting it into words.. Thanks for your thoughts..
Oh, and there is no person in the sketch..

Well, my personal catchphrase is "..or maybe I'm just reading way too much into it,"* and pattern recognition is hardwired into our brains big-time. Hopefully by spending time and effort to interpret pictures the artists will know how much I appreciate their work. Also, this piece has some parallels with some of ~jerry8448 's work too, at least according to my pattern-recognition program.
Like ~FlyingGinger (awesome name) I read up on Archigram and will have to dig more. Looks like more architecture books are going on my Christmas wish list.
* I'll save my personal snowclone for another time.

I ended up reading your blog and looking into the group.
While they seem pretty pretentious, their works, goals and idea shave been an interesting read.
Your art is very interesting and I shall continue to read and follow your blog. Really nice work with the ink.
If you want more things on this sort of thread. There's a small Issac Asimov book his favorite short sci fi stories from his period by other people. It's really interesting and strange their own ways of believing what the world will belike and the weird conventions and names for things.

Nice to meet you, Wood!
I like science fiction, too!
So, do you like Star Wars, or Star Trek? What about Doctor Who, are you into that?
What do you think of "Pacific Rim"? I was never really into it, what about you, Wood?

Nice to meet you too! To be honest, I'm not that into sci-fi movies. I just love creating my own worlds and getting lost in them. But I will check what you suggested. Oh, and I know about Star Wars and Star Trek. So, don't think I'm too lost..
