Description
My entry for the TheArtOrder.com challenge Eowyn and the Nazgul, always wanted to draw this part of the book so it was a lot of fun to execute. The thing is pretty big though at 19x40 inches so my hand really hurts now ><Related content

Great, wide-angle pic! Er, didn't the city have it lowest walls made from dark stone??? By the way, I always thought the horse should have a couple of visible wounds, since he reared up then died before the Nazgul got there.

The only artist I know of who has chosen to depict the lower walls in Numenorian black stone is Ted Nasmith and he only did it in one of his minas tirith paintings. The reason artists usually choose to avoid that is because it really doesn't look very good and kind of ruins the whole "white city" vibe.

The words escape me! Let me pause to think...
My favorite movie (I have it a goal to read the books). You are obviously a master of chiaroscuro. The horse and King Eomer, lying so heavily on the ground, looks so tragic in their death/injury! The Nazgul also looks very powerful, dark, and evil, great shading there. I also like little Merry hiding behind the huge grey boulder, small but so courageous. The mountains are well done (superb rocky texture). Eowyn is very beautiful, too, and you wouldn't guess that she'd triumph over the nasty witch-king!
And never mind the meticulously done Minas Tirith (soo many windows...) and the slightly blurred battle raging through the middle of the picture. Epic scope, I LOVE this!!

Wow! I've seen a lot of these in the last days and this is definitely one of the best. Love the detail in there. The beast's wings are incredibly realistic.

This is gorgeous! It was well worth the time you put into it for sure. The whole composition is beautiful in detail and in balance. I especially love the faces, they have a very Michelangelo romanticism to them. My favorite is probably King Teoden's face. The weight if his face that angle is so perfect. :3

Wow, this is truly stunning - I hope you dont mind me saying that it reminds me of the work of British painter John Martin, who does huge sweeping pieces depicting biblical characters and scenes - I was lucky enough to see an exhibition of his paintings and mezzotints at the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle last month and this would not look out of place hanging amongst them. Great job!
