That mermaid has a reeeeally long tail. Is she a flesh eating mermaid? I feel like that would be the kind of mermaid you would write about...

Realistic? I hate to break it to you, but mermaids aren't real, thus there is no 'more realistic way to portray them XD

it´s just that I always thought ariel´s tail was way to small compared to the rest of her body. In real life(lets just pretend for a moment that mermaids exist) that tail would be impossible to swim with. it should be much longer and thinner i think.

Really? Because fish and sharks and dolphins mostly have tails that are that length or shorter, I think if you get too long you're just expending excess energy to move it through the water. Also, I think width matters more than length, if you think about how duck feet or flippers work.

hm, i saw a couple of mermaids in the old peter pan movie.(the one with Robbie willaims) and they had very long tails. and the ones in the new peter pan movie(they are evil) have long tails to. longer than the legs under the tail. And I think that looks more natural.
But the mermaids in disneychannel´s H2o have shorter thicker tails. And they are shaped as legs, not tails.

You mean Hook? Good movie, but why would you base how mermaids look off of Peter Pan? I was thinking realistically in the sense that if they were real this would be more likely/advantageous to swimming, and based off that mermaids are human/fish crossbreeds and not human/snake crossbreeds so they would have shorter tails.

It's not about gluing, it's about the species mating with each other. Which is even more creepy if you think about it hard. But I like thinking about the logistics of these things. Just because it's magic doesn't mean I can't try and make sense out of it

Btw, have you ever seen Invader Zim? If you haven't you really should, it's creepy and awesome and amazing. The art might annoy you for a little bit, but it's just so good that that shouldn't matter. It really seems like the kinda show you'd like.
