Description
The comparisons come back with a vengeance.Today is September 30, also known as the day The Casagrandes, the spin-off series to The Loud House, aired its final episodes, "Flock This Way" and "Movers and Fakers". When it comes to my viewing experiences with the show, I thought it was an alright show. My main positives were how the show focused on a more racially diverse family and feature stories that implemented a hint of Latino culture (like Dia de los Muertos). However, when it comes to the negatives, they are the reasons I'm not entirely big on the show. The most obvious reason why I'm not entirely big on this show is because, in the grand scheme of it all, this is just a reskinned clone of The Loud House, from the stories, the comedy, and lessons taught. Another problem I have with the show is that some of the characters aren't as engaging as the ones from The Loud House. What I mean is that, when you break down the characteristics of some of the characters, there are chances that they'll remind you of someone from The Loud House. Here are some examples I could think of:
- Ronnie Anne is a female Lincoln, since they're the leaders of their friend circle, and are usually the first at coming up with a plan when faced with a conflict.
- Carlos is a male Lisa, since they're both the resident geniuses of their households, although Carlos is a much more reserved intellectual.
- Carlota is basically Leni (since they're both highly into fashion) with a more snobbish attitude.
- Carl is a male Lola, since they both act bratty whenever nothing goes their way, tend to act bigger than they are, and try to make themselves the center of attention.
- Carlitos is is a male Lily, since they're only toddlers and are capable of pulling off elaborate plots to get what they desire ("Any Given Sundae" for Lily, "Fluff Love" for Carlitos)
- Ronnie Anne's friend group is almost the same as Lincoln's friend group: they both have a leader (Lincoln and Ronnie Anne), a yes-man best friend (Clyde and Sid), and a butt monkey (Rusty and Laird).
Keep in mind, I only said SOME of the characters remind me of someone from The Loud House, because there are some who clearly stand out. I think one of the best characters of the show is CJ, not just because he's such fun soul, but he's probably the first (and possibly only) character in the franchise with a mental disability, as he has Down syndrome (even his voice actor, Jared Kozak has it as well), and how the show loves to embrace that by making him such a likeable character is what makes him stand out to me. Another character that stands out in this show to me is Sid Chang. I may have mentioned a few moments ago that she's basically this show's Clyde, given how they're the closest friend of the main character and tend to go along with whatever they're told, but Sid is just so highly energetic, and she has a bunch of weird/odd moments that just make her more appealing than Clyde.
Now that I gave my ups and downs on the show, now to explain my artwork before someone loses their head over the joke in it.
Being a fan of The Loud House allows me to learn about what happens in the fandom. Perhaps one of the most infamous jokes when it comes to The Casagrandes is that the show is exactly like The Cleveland Show, the spin-off series to Family Guy. As mentioned in the artwork, The Casagrandes is always being compared to The Cleveland Show because of how many similar notes both shows hit, like the starring character moving away, having a heavier reliance on racially diverse characters, and being seen as mostly a copy-and-paste product of the original. Naturally, many fans weren't happy about these comparisons, claiming that they're not "fair". One of the most common reasons people give to refute these comparisons is "The Casagrandes is good, while The Cleveland Show is bad." Sorry to say this, but that's not really a logical reason why the show should be vulnerable to the comparisons, because it's subjective, or based on your own preferences. As someone who thinks logically whenever comparisons are made, I'm able to see the more understandable reasons why the two shows are often compared, and can think about actual, logical reasons to point out the differences between the two. Here are some of the things I can think of that make the two shows different from each other:
- The Casagrandes has a heavier reliance on telling morals, while The Cleveland Show is merely telling stories without gaining much.
- This could be attributed to the shows' target demographics; The Casagrandes is geared more for kids, while The Cleveland Show is more for adults.
- The Casagrandes has a mostly down-to-earth tone, while The Cleveland Show is full-on cartoony (like having a talking bear).
- Perhaps the biggest and most well-known difference between the two (which I mentioned in the artwork) is that The Cleveland Show ends with Cleveland and his family moving back to Quahog, while The Casagrandes ends with Ronnie Anne and her family staying in Great Lakes City.
My main goal with this artwork is that I wanted to try and satirize the joke that "The Casagrandes is basically a kid-friendly version of The Cleveland Show" by having the characters acknowledge both the comparisons and differences. Hopefully, someone would read this and understand where I'm coming from before they even think about making the comment of "UgH, aNoThEr CoMpArIsOn To ThE cLeVeLaNd ShOw?! ThAt'S nOt FuNnY!"
Initially, I was only going to have Cleveland and Ronnie Anne in this artwork, but considering that the image is set in a restaurant, I thought the image felt a bit empty, so I decided to add in some characters from other spin-off cartoons. On the left, we have DariaΒ Morgendorffer from, well, Daria, and on the right, we have Baby Grizz from We Baby Bears. I decided to have the setting be a hangout for cartoon characters from spin-off shows, and this idea just suddenly came when I thought of "What if characters from spin-off shows would get together and lament to each other how their shows are doomed to have a shorter lifespan than their parent show?" Originally, the characters featured were going to be from shows that are already over, but I decided to include Baby Grizz, a character from a show that is still going, because I needed to balance the amount of kid shows and adult shows present, and because it was simple enough to make on a whim.
That's all there is to say here. Hope you liked it, and I hope anyone wasn't too triggered at the fact that I made an artwork centered on the The Casagrandes' most overused comparison. Besides, the ending of The Casagrandes shouldn't be a completely total loss, as the staff at Nickelodeon has confirmed that the characters will make occasional appearances on The Loud House, so it's not like they're gone forever. I mean, there's an upcoming half-hour Halloween special featuring the Louds and Casagrandes meeting each other again.
