Description I draw the strangest things for work.

OK, this requires some explanation. This is a turnaround illustration for a rat in a trap. I didn't draw the trap because the trap for this product has already been made; it was my job to design the rat only.

If I post turnarounds for product design here, generally you'll see one of the turnarounds colored and the other two left black and white. This is so that there's a colour guide, but so some of the drawings are nice and crystal-clear for the sculptor.

Drawn and colored in Photoshop.

I'm not sure what else to say about this. It's a rat. It's trapped. It's somewhat alarmed? ^_^; When the product comes out I'll repost this together with a photo of the finished dealie and an explanation of what it actually does. 'Til then, patience, young Deviants.

Haha, cool! I see it around now and again myself, though I tend to avoid novelty gift stores... otherwise I get Vietnam-style flashbacks to that particular job.

I saw the product in a store today! Well, Im pretty sure that it was this. It was a rat in a trap that looked just like this, the same style and pose, and everything. They're werent any batteries in it. I couldnt see what it actually did though. x.x

That would've been it, yeah. It is motion-activated and when someone walks past, the trap snaps shut on the rat and he starts begging / conning / wisecracking for his life.

I just love this concept! I saw this as a gag in Spencer's in California. It looked just like your design.

Good thing it wasnt Remy teh Rat. lol

The turnarounds are so accurate... even though we didnt see the mousetrap but focusing to draw only the rat.

Poor little guy, but a truly wonderful rendition of a rat! I'm not letting you anywhere near my ratlings however. Smooth as silk coloring as well!

Ha ha!! I love the "half-dead" expression on its face! The bulging eyes kinda remind me of the raccoon that Donny (aka Karri Aronen according to you) designed as a logo for a website.

Your job looks like such fun! And for the wackiness factor of the items, the draftsmanship is still so amazing.

I hope there were no critters harmed in the making of this picture!! XD You've captured the very essence of being a rat in a trap! The sculptor will easily be able to follow this, heck, even I could follow it! lol If ya don't mind me asking, how long did it take for you to finish this particular piece? Looks very clean and detailed, and I'm curious. If you are overwhelmed with questions like that, don't worry about answering. no biggie.
See ya later, Animator!!! XD that ryhmes! lol

Thank you! (now I have the 'See You Later, Alligator' song in my head...)

It took just under one full working day, I think. It's hard for me to say, because I get interrupted now and then at work, have to stop to talk to people, etc... but I'm guessing about six solid hours of work? I had to redesign the rat slightly, it was a bit more realistic when I started.

I much prefer the b&w views of him/her/it than the coloured. It's kinda cute in a...tortured kind of way. Just want to take it home and make it feel better. That could just be me
