I love the emotional quality of trust this piece conveys. Such a solid strong arm open and reaching out in such an open way gives me a huge sense of calm.

Oh yeah! the hairs on the hand is really interesting. they interest me more than the hand (oooops!!) I also admire the way you worked the shadow with different tones, and the reflection of the background on the skin just wraps up the whole picture. I have to say the hairs made the picture more human.

Thank you, although i'm not sure what you mean by natural. the light was a very bright lightbulb in a dark room, quite unnatural. Although i'm sure you meant somthing different, perhaps 'realistic'?

more often than i like it's the part of the painting that took the least amount of time that turns out to be the best part. Happy New Year! [link]

I love the hands position and pose. Who's arm is that? I am not sure red was the best color for the BG though. Hmm... It probably is as I do not see any other color showing sincerity any clearer.

PS,
great job on the lighting effects as usual.
Pss,
This is third time trying to send this because I just kept pressing cancel instead of send. >.< Duuuu...

Hehe, yeah Iβve done that lots too.
The arm belongs to my fiancΓ©e; the position is one of martial arts. I choose the colour on instinct really, although I think it had something to do with the background of the photo. I liked the way the red brought out the colour of the skin and clashed with the greenish-grey shadows. I love red, it such an intense passionate colour...

Hello,
I love the color red as well. Although, I can also say I love the color blue, yellow, green... I just love color period. I suppose that is why I shy away from it myself. I am always afraid I will pick the wrong ones.

There is no wrong colour, I don't think. If you have trouble choosing a colour think about what mood or feeling you are trying to convey in that piece of art. But always pick it through your own feelings; if red means angry to you it might meet love to someone else. So go with what works for you and let others make up their own minds what it means to them.
if you're still stuck try making a few sketches using different combinations of colours until you have got one you like.
(sorry Iβm in advice mode today, feel free to ignore me)

No worries,
Advise is always welcome between artists. Is that not the point of this site anyways? |D
Thanks for the advise. Fits in with what someone else told me. He said that my art is my own language. I think I will start coloring more often... It's not my fault that they do not understand my language, ya?

Exactly, and there's no point trying to make a viewer feel a certain way when they look at your art. Because each viewer has their own story their own life experiences, which they carry with them all the time, this means that each individual person reads an artwork in their own specific way.
It's why I try to make my work ambiguous, so people are more likely to see their own story reflected in my work, to make their own personal connection with the painting...

Toekneebob In reply to AnnaGilhespy [2007-01-25 08:20:26 +0000 UTC]
Well,
I never thought of it that way. I usually think of how I can communicate a certain idea to the viewer... no wonder the most liked art of mine is the ones I just did for myself.
I've noticed that about your art. Always a different story...
