Description
A bit different Vriska Serket robot arm tutorial: Part 1 - The Glove.~ NO COMMISSIONS ~
Part 2 - The Colors anniina85.deviantart.com/art/V…
At this half I explain how to make a glove out of 60 den grey tights. -Again, this is just a messy walkthrough with all the mistakes and everything of how I rolled with this. There are better ways, I bet. Learn from my mistakes, bro! :'D
So, my robot arm ended up a bit more complicated than the original design. I didn't want to just color my arm with few stripes for the cosplay and be done with it. I wanted it to look a bit more.. well.. AWESOME. I took influence from GUNNM and FMA etc. and the fab result surprised even me. : D Since people have been so sweet and curious about this, here's a 2-part tutorial just for you. <3
This method can be used for just any robot arm, not just Vriskas. Or simply just how to make a grey glove for troll cosplay etc, if you don't want to paint your skin.

some things are indeed hard to find. it's time to check the internet then! ebay for example has a nice variety of grey pantyhose etc

Ah hello! I used your tutorial in spring 2012, and in looking for tutorials to use again this year, I ran across it again!
Unfortunately I read your tutorial a few times but then sewed my armsocks over the weekend- while at my cottage, which has no internet connection. I misremembered the part about cutting while the sock is on your hand as sewing while the sock is on your hand. Predictably, the results were not great, and I had to cut the fingers off of my gloves.
But I did (semi)successfully follow your directions on the detailing of the tights! They didn't come out perfectly, but they worked well enough for the weekend I was wearing them. c:

whoaaa sweet cosplay! : D good job!
damn I'm sorry for the fingers, they can be tricky while there's not much fabric to work on.. mine were pretty tight fit also. you always could have sewn new ones from the scrap fabric but yeah.. all in the past.
Thanks for showing me your results! purrrr <3

I wish I could draw as good as you when it comes to this. I was trying to make an automail arm (from fullmetal alchemist) and it didn't come out like this :I
But great tutorial, even if you're just making arm socks(which is a feat I must do from time to time)

so my sister is going as paninya for a convention and is planning on using this tutorial for the arm. what can she do if the leggings she has don't have feet at the bottom? they were the only thing she found in the color

Anniina85 In reply to SupMitchel [2013-03-07 08:52:31 +0000 UTC]
mmm, does she have 2 pair of leggins reserved for this? I suggest using one pair for the hand and other pair for the leg, the mid part can work as a harness and other can be worn like pants and there's extra fabric to sow the feet part and hide the seam with coloring

Wow that is really incredible...
But, I have a couple of questions, I'm not sure if you noted it or not but you used hand sewing right, not machine?
Also, is the wrist a separate part attached after finishing the fingers or was it still connected to the tights?
Sorry, I just want to make SURE I know what I'm doing before I start haha

Anniina85 In reply to whalicorn [2012-09-19 18:29:26 +0000 UTC]
hand sewing yes. I don't thing sewing machine would handle this fabric and so close to the edge.
the wrist being a separate part..? umm Ok how do I explain this.. I did the wrist part last, after sewing the fingers. You have the glove on and at this point it's too loose in the wrist area, so to slim it down you cut off the extra fabric then sew it together. To do this, first I pinned the fabric down to get the glove fit nicely and to find the right place to make the cut; to a place that would be the easiest to hide with coloring of course.
I hope that helped? :,D

Now before I say just like everyone else is by saying "Holy cow this is really good WOW!", I do have a question.
I understand the tutorial but I'm afraid I do not understand why you need nailpolish. I've looked the tutorial over five times over already and I can't seem to find the reasoning behind nailpolish?
If you could explain this to me, that would be wonderful. I want to make sure the nailpolish is necessary or whatever to the quality of the glove or whatever.

Anniina85 In reply to RudolfLioness [2012-08-08 18:32:58 +0000 UTC]
ooookay, one more time. : D
I applied some nailpolish to finish the seams, it prevents the fabrick from running and ruining your hard work of sewing. Pantyhose fabric tends to do that easily if the glove is a tight fit. Try without it all you like if it works, this was just my solution to this problem I noticed. It makes the glove itch a lot so if you guys can make it work without nailpolish, G R E A T !

RudolfLioness In reply to Anniina85 [2012-08-08 20:44:04 +0000 UTC]
Oh. That's a good solution! I'll see if there's anything I can do to try and prevent the itching but still use some sort of no-fray solution like that. Sorry I had to ask a dumb question, I'm sure it was in the tutorial somewhere but my eyes leave me practically blind to writing sometimes!

Daaang this is good, hopefully I can make a robot arm out of this tutorial. One thing I didn't understand was the nail polish part?...
Also, your nail polish is very clean on your nails~

ooooOOOOoo fabulous job!! Nice details. Thanks for sharing, it's always exciting to see how these work out<3<3<3
The nailpolish was to prevent the fabrick from running, if you managed to make it work without it, great!
