A bit different Vriska Serket robot arm tutorial: Part 2 - The Colors~ NO COMMISSIONS ~
Part 1 - The Glove anniina85.deviantart.com/art/V…
OH GOG. This took longer than I expected! I'm sorry for the delay. ;-; traveling, school exams, social life.. you know the drill. But now it's here!
I explained pretty much EVERYTHING in this part, so this might sound like a tutorial for dummies haha. I just wanted to be thorough and explain ALL the pros and cons I went through with this process. ALL OF THEM. I hope this'll be helpful on your own path of Vriska cosplay~ <3

Could you tell me if you know of any similar markers that could do this, but are a bit cheaper? This looks amazing! I'd like to have a go at it, but the markers have me in a bind ;n;

the substitutes are about just as costly, like neopicos. in the end, it's just money, and not even that much of it if you think about it. cosplay is worth it. : )

it's not that hard as it looks, the whole picture might be confusing but if you concentrate in one detail at a time and it'll be ok : )

Thank you for posting this and part 2, I'm currently in the process of making a "Post-apocalyptic Harry Potter" costume. Mask is done. I want to have the robot hand/arm to look like someone used Sectumsempra on me and this is the replacement.

I wish you sold these. Unfortunately, I'm in no way artistically talented, and am completely incapable of making something even remotely as visually appealing as that.
So if by some off-chance you decide you want to sell one, hmu.

This is so awesome and useful for anything, if you just changed the colours to golds and bronze you could make a steampunk robot arm too^^ its so good

I have a quick question:
Do you recommend wearing nails/growing out nails when you make the arm? Or was this just a coincidence because of your own personal tastes?
I ask because of how nails affect the shape. Obviously, the nails give the tips of the fingers a bit more of a pointed shape, where as keeping nails short will make them rounder.

Anniina85 In reply to UnknownMarauder [2013-02-26 22:58:56 +0000 UTC]
true that! I kept my nails long for I love them very much, and the pointy fingertips looked kinda cool. so basically, what ever floats your boat

Thank you, after doing the hands and shading, doing the rest of the body was a no-brainer. That hand shadowing is good practice! Unfortunately, the webcam kills a lot of detail, but I think I'm going to have good photos of this costume taken. I deviated a little bit from your design and used a shinier silver zentai suit, and that saved me a lot of time shading on the arms and front. This already took three days, I know want to think about how long it would have taken me if I had to do all that extra shading...

Anniina85 In reply to vervv [2013-02-25 17:09:48 +0000 UTC]
yeah that silver fabric works nicely with the metallic effect, no need to add that manually indeed. I on the other hand was aiming (to use my artistic abilities to the fullest) for more comic-like result that wouldn't be dependent on the lighting.
I'll stay put for your final results then! : )

vervv In reply to Anniina85 [2013-02-25 17:51:31 +0000 UTC]
I enjoy that yours is much more stylized. It fits Vriska much better in my opinion. For my full robot, it was more practical just to have silver I also decided that, within the MLP fandom, there is a joke that one of the ponies is actually a robot. Therefore, this suit will be getting lots of use

Anniina85 In reply to vervv [2013-02-25 19:55:56 +0000 UTC]
yeah totally, shading just that one arm seemed to take forever so we're not even talking about making the whole suit with the same technique : DDD

vervv In reply to Anniina85 [2013-02-26 04:38:12 +0000 UTC]
Either way, you tutorial saved me so much time. Even thought the suit shifts and the elbows aren't always aligned, I think the suit is impressive enough on its own. However, without your help, it wouldn't have happened at all! Also, several people on tumblr has sent me messages thanking me for including a link to your tutorial on the post. It sounds like you will be seeing some other people's work soon!!
