Various monsters created for Anouk's world.
Top left is the Feather-Backed Snorfler.
The Snorfler is entirely blind and uses its brilliant sense of smell to find food. It is a carnivore and uses its several rows of small but drill-like teeth to rip its prey apart. Its favourite prey are Darklings, little shadow creatures. The Snorfler is one of the ugliest creatures Anouk has ever encountered, like a mix of a skinned cat and a worm. It is not high on the food chain but still a threat to anything smaller than itself.
Top right is the Gripe.
Vampirish little creatures, utterly lineless and blank, it has no eyes, no ears, no nose and no actual mouth. It eats through the suckers embedded in its palms. Its claws are razor sharp, sharp enough to rip little birds to pieces, to reveal its red, sweet innards. It is very small, barely reaching your knee. It is shy and secretive, never appearing in front of humans.
Bottom, the Mimen.
The Mimen uses its victims mind against them, taking images of its prey's beloved and taking the form of that loved one. The prey does not realise their mistake until it is too late.
Om nom nom.
While they utterly take the form of another, a clue of their falsness is the long dark crease that runs from the nose to the bellybutton. In every form they take, this trait appears. This "crease" is actually a mouth, hidden for the surprise attack, and big enough to swallow a child whole. No one has seen one in its true form. Above is A mimen taking the form of Anouk, in it's attempt to trick Jack.
