I like it very much . Composition, expression, proportions, colors, the strokes behind the mouth area...long neck, the sensation of power and being more muscular than extant lions is well gotten, well depicted.
What I will say now it is because i like it. About shadding, it is my worst nightmare as well, much more than fur. In the eye, the drawing would benefit of defining the bright spot caused by the direction of the light, and also the shadding due to the volumen of eyelids and snout. Just those little touches to the eye, and it would be more expressive (just in my opinion).

Yes, I do think the shading needs refining, and I've been trying to do that on my later deviations, check my Turolian king. I also forgot to add the whiskers in, which is an evident problem.
