This is the final shot of the short film. Above is the original footage shot at Edinburgh Castle, overlooking Edinburgh City. For the final DMP below, the water level we imagined would have completely covered the city below, so we cheated and raised the city also bringing it closer in shot #moviemagic haha

This is just one of my Matte Paintings I created for David Lumsden’s short film, BOAT about 3 years ago. In total, I created around 80 DMPs to complete the 15 min short film which took me roughly a year and a half haha (Jan 2011-July 2012). The actor shown on the DMPs are for placement purposes only (not final composites). The same goes for the water. I added them in as reference. This was a pretty sweet project to work on, but it was incredibly tough going. For starters, I couldn't matte paint when I began the project and so had to teach myself on the go. I also had to act as my own Art Director although that paid off pretty well as I won a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award 2015 for Design earlier this year ;D

If anyone want to know more, just ask I'll be posting more mattes from this project over the next few weeks/months/whatever.
