Half of humanity had been wiped out in the war; three quarters of the men and one quarter of the women. As a result, during the years immediately following the war women outnumbered men three to one. There was some debate on how to handle this, but humanity solved it before the politicians could agree on a global solution. Most simply doubled and tripled up as best they could. Despite initial awkwardness and social hesitancy it soon became the de facto household structure.

Ninety five percent of the women had been pressed into service as silk milk producers by the Spider-bots. The combination of hard milking pain and pleasure-inducing medication had produced a masochistic streak in the women that proved difficult for psychologists to counter. In addition to that the milk inducing serum had affected them in ways other than lactation. Their domestic instincts and compliance levels had become heightened.

Governments around the world initiated programs to help them return to normal thinking but most of the women actively resisted, despite their increased compliant personalities, insisting that they were quite happy the way they were and did not need any adjustment. At first they were simply ordered into the re-education programs but within a few months the programs were dropped en mass as an even more disquieting change became apparent. Pregnancies had begun to produce only baby girls.

Compared to that problem the domestic mindset issue was a distant second consideration, and one that most men really did not mind so much. Faced with the alarming prospect of the entire human race becoming extinct within a century the governments of the world shifted all available scientific resources to figuring out why it was happening and in getting things back to normal.

It took nearly a decade to find out how the lactation-inducing serum had changed them and to devise an antidote that worked. By then humanity had settled into and coped with the new household arrangements. Girls born of the abducted women needed the antidote too it was found out once they grew up and began to have children of their own but the cure was now known. Gender balance would correct itself in time. Humanity would not die out.

Another decade after the antidote was discovered, the women who had been born of the original abducted women also began to display masochistic and domestic tendencies of their own as they started into their early twenties. Apparently that change was also genetically transmitted from generation to generation. It was an unexpected turn of events, one that proved harder to correct than the gender imbalanced pregnancies had been. Eight years later human scientists were still no closer to discovering how to counteract it than when they began.

As radical as these changes were however they paled in comparison to the technological changes that had happened. Access to advanced alien technology had been a boon to humanity, though in some ways very different than anyone had expected ...
