When one adds critique on dA, one must always consider the artist's comment. With that in mind, it must be said that this lives up to it. That said, the visional side of this photo is a very good. The concept of this photo shines through.
The originality has a lot to do with that, which is also quite good. Even though dA is owerflown by b&w photos, this one as a type is a first for me.
The technique - the use of the camera and the editing, which has taken place - is also splendid. It very dramatic and quite suttle at the same, which is a combination of good photographic craftsmanship and exellent editing.
Generally, this is a high scoring photography.

Nothing wrong with drama. I'd even favor some more of it in the foreground, but as a composition it's well balanced. Noise / grain is okay too.

Thanks Eric, a question to you though, should there be more sky in your opinion?

Hm, I think the sky is okay. I just think the foreground needs some prominent feature. An eye-catching texture or some dramatic contrast. Something like the footsteps would be nice, but they are rather inconspicuous now. Maybe you should make them stand out by selective contrast or tonemapping.

Hmmm... I see what you mean, more contrast or an interesting element in the foreground, thanks for your advice Eric, I'll see what I can do!

you had sand... this didn't need ANY grain
as a matter of fact, the grain made the waves look alot like grass the contrast and composition is wonderful though (sorry i've been gone, there's been lots and lots of trouble)

I know, I've read your journals, but I can't really offer much help, just hope for the best.
Personally I quite like the grain here, I think it catches people off guard, its the first thing you noticed is it not?

mmm for the most part i guess. the first thing i usually notice is the feeling the wntire picture gives but for the physical i guess that'd be it.
as far as help, you dont need to offer it. its just nice to know someone's there.

very interesting shot Alex...
I like the contrast between the sand and the sky and this dark line in the middle, but it would be interesting to see the sky without that noise...

I like your "sandy" shots...
It's an interesting look at the sea sides...

My grain is someone elses noise, I do have a grainless version which I'm sure would have gained more in the way of favourites, but I prefer this one, the way it catches you off guard.
