    My love story had quite a strange beginning, to be honest. It was during high school when I met the boy who conquered my heart through his sweet nature and soft personality. His name is Nero Solistice and he captured my heart the moment I saw him. I have to admit that our relationship used to be that of an owner-pet fashion…really not proud of it. Although by looking at myself, I was not like many girls my age. I never liked girly things in my life and I would never act like a feminine damsel. I like action, adventure, and sports. No man would ever dare to cross me, I would kick their nuts anywhere and anytime. When I was in high school, I used to run a group of girls who would mess things up. It was all for good fun, we were beating up other groups who were actually more hostile than us. The golden rule of my group, and still a prime rule for me, is to never fight someone who can’t defend him/herself. Even though we were respected and admired by those we defended, we never wanted recognition but fear instead. Therefore we treated them with indifference in order to keep our badass personalities. It was in one of those moments when I met Nero.

    Nero is a very sweet kid, perhaps too sweet for his own good. He is selfless and tries his best to make everyone happy. He is very close to his sister Lia but they are so different. Unlike her, Nero cannot defend himself, he prefers diplomacy rather than violence. That may be a noble path to take but that is why he was always a victim of bad people. In top of it, he is also very smart, thus becoming center of ridicule for strong idiots who envied his high knowledge. Being the perfect example of a weak nerd, I saw him being harassed and even attacked by two bullies. This took place near the soccer field where he tended a small garden there. These two bullies were destroying his little garden, as he tried to defend his work, the bullies cornered him and smashed his face into the dirt. As a witness, I could have stepped in and kicked their asses but I wanted to see how strong this kid was.

Bully #1: (laughing) You stupid faggot, you and your garden are meaningless!

Bully #2: What are you, a sissy boy? You little pussy! (He grabs Nero and pushes him to the ground)

Nero: Please, don’t hurt them! I beg you! (His head in the ground, collapsing to the roses and lilies) They are innocent, they have done nothing to you! (Starts to sob)

Bully #1: Shut the f*** up! (He tries to step on Nero’s head)

Nero: (He dodges the bully’s foot and grabs it) I hate people like you who hurt the defenseless! (He bites the bully’s foot)

Bully #1: Aaahhh!!! You Motherf’’’er! (Screams in pain and falls hard to the floor)

Bully #2: You little bastard! (He kicks Nero’s back) I will teach you who is the boss!

Nero: (He takes the bully’s hits meanwhile the other bully gets up to join the violence)

    As they were hitting him in retaliation to his small counterattack, I could see the burning rage in his eyes. The fire within him was not for vengeance but for protection. He bravely tried to take on two guys physically superior. Even though his chances of victory were small, he still tried to fight. Thus after watching his valiant stand, I decided to step in.

Artemis: Hey shitheads! Why don’t you fight with someone of your own size! (I was laughing with a smirk)

Bully #1: Well, well, well, looks like we have someone to have fun with (looking at me lecherously while standing up)

Bully #2: Yeah! Come here you little bit…..(I punched him right in the stomach)

Bully #1: (Ready to hit me in the face) You whor….(yet I kicked him in the face)

Bully #2: (in pain and scared) Let’s get out of here!

Bully #1: Help! (The two escape)

Artemis: Yeah run away, you f***ers! (As they left, I saw Nero trying to stand up after the beating he endured) Hey kid, I got to say you have guts.

Nero: (He crawled to his destroyed garden and his eyes drowned into tears) I worked so hard on them…they could not have damaged anyone…(he sobbed softly).

Artemis: Stop being so naïve, dummy. Learn from this that the world is cruel and unfair to anyone. Your kindness and philanthropy won’t save you from evil people like those bastards who took a crap out of you.

Nero: (He was silent, I knew he was listening to me. His sobbing grew louder and louder)

Artemis: You will have to fight in order to protect, boy. (Although I supported his stance, I didn’t cut him some slack) I saw how you bit the crap out of that hooligan. You only need to be more confident in yourself.

Artemis: (His smile was so adorable, it made my heart to melt away, but I needed to stay cool) Hey! I don’t want any thanks from you, I take rewards instead.

Artemis: (Now I was surprised by his immediate submission) Wait, are you not going to give it a thought or something?

Nero: You rescued me, I cannot question my guardian angel, right? (he smiled)

Artemis: (I blushed) Don’t sass me, boy! I will make every morning unbearable for you and then you will see what kind of guardian angel I really am!

Nero: (He chucked) I understand, Miss Artemis. My name Is Nero Solistice, at your service.

Artemis: (His sincerity and innocence bewitched me) Don’t be a pushover, kid! I’ll see you tomorrow early (I left without looking at him, although I really wanted to see them)

    As a result, Nero and I had and interesting relationship ever since. Before classes, I hanged around the soccer field and practiced my kicks during the early hours. Nero always came to see me while I was there by myself in the empty field. I loved his presence, the way he looked at me, and how warm he made me feel. He fixed the little garden outside the fleld and made it more beautiful than the one before. He tended the roses and lilies with extreme care. Sometimes I messed with him by almost kicking the ball directly to the flowers. He became angry yet with his cute eyes ready to give out tears. His softness took hold over me, I always desired to kiss him but I wanted to avoid being soft myself. Thus came a rainy day, it was the day I decided to reveal my love for him. Regardless of the weather, Nero accompanied me to the field. He would be using his umbrella while I got myself wet in the rain.

    But that day was different, he was not in the field. Thus I decided to look for him in the school. I tried the library, his homeroom classroom, and even the boys’ restroom, but I couldn’t find him. It was not until I found him in a corridor looking at something. I secretly sneaked into a room in front of the one Nero was found. I looked at what he was gazing upon. I was in shock; he was looking at a girl getting naked in the deserted hall. Artemis: (My heart stopped, stunned by his words. Keeping my cool I said) Come one, puppy! Hahaha! (I laughed to hide my growing rage) She is older than you, she seems to be 17 while you are a 15-year-old squirt.

Nero: (he continued to look at me, with his eyes ready to come into tears) Please, Artemis! You are my best friend and I want to have your support…you are very special to me, you know.

Artemis: (you adorable little idiot, how dare you say these things to me, I am the one in love with you) Come on, I do not even know who she is. Even if I did, there is no guarantee she would fall in love with you.

Nero: (His puppy eyes turned into a direct gaze that pierced my ego) Have you ever fell in love with someone, Arty? I understand you don’t like to involve yourself with cheesy stuff, but for me these feelings are important!

Artemis: (I was taken away by his attitude, he was true to his heart) OK, OK, I will help you, gee, Mr. Serious.

Nero: Thank you, Arty! (He hugged me with his warm body) I knew I could count on you.

Artemis: (As he was hugging me with happiness, my heart was torn apart and My eyes were drowning in tears) No problem, puppy…you can always count on me.

    I gotta say I felt like shit in that time. My puppy boy was in love with someone else instead of me. It was my fault, I never did anything romantic for him or at least being more honest with my own feelings. Probably I am not his type at all. I wanted to respect his decision but as a friend of him, I saw incredible obstacles for Nero to succeed in having that girl’s heart. Maybe I should fight for what I want, to protect what I desire, to love my soft angel without my ego getting in the way.
