Description
After a long and exhausting walk of about 20km with 25kg luggage on the back, nature emply rewarded us with this magnificent view down in the valley of Vonarskarth, central highlands of Iceland. In the background glacier VatnajΓΆkull, the biggest glacier of Europe (8000sqkm).Iceland - 2008
Have a look at this re-processed version of the photograph. I adjusted colours and contrast and did some additional sharpening -> [link]

There is no better place to be for photographing untouched nature

i love the photo, and the moment you managed to capture so well. a bit of sharpening maybe when you resized it, but other than that i must say - although i know i'll probably be in minority esp after DD - i prefer this one. the post processed one does look more spectacular and it's not over-processed as many photos tend to be these days, but this one seems to me more natural and the photo itself is fantastic. i don't know how the view looked in the first place, so if it was more similar to post processed work i'd go for it, as most times camera doesn't capture the moment the way we see it, despite all our efforts and equipment we use to do it

Thanks for your thoughts. Reality was somewhere between those two versions, closer to the reprocessed one. This one is a bit too dark, mainly in the foreground, and lacks a bit of colors. Shooting in RAW mode without any camera-internal processing makes some post processing definitively necessary. However, as you mentioned, I try not to over-process my photographs and to keep them as close as possible to reality.

i shoot in raw myself and i know the need of adjustment made later in the process. many times i just don't have the time to make perfect adjustments at the place when i'm out with a group that has no patience nor understanding for photography. and sometimes the scene is just too dynamic to capture it on the chip as it was in the Nature - human eye sees thing differently than the electronic one
i so love rainbows and only once i saw the complete arch - in the city from the 23rd floor. unfortunately i only had my cellphone and had to shoot through dirty windows

Well, you have to be very lucky to be able to take a picture of such a moment and I'm aware that I'll never see this again in my life. So I'm veeery happy that I've had my camera with me

Wow, that is absolutely amazing. I love how this photo shows so much scenery and includes the whole rainbow. It isn't often I see a full rainbow photo.
I think this photo could benefit from a tiny bit of contrast and perhaps a slight boost in saturation to bring out the colours of the rainbow more. But other than that, I think it's a beautiful photo. A great capture.
