light and colour painting practise; tree/tree stump is one of my favourite subject to practise on - enough noised surface to cast lots of shadows and colour tones ( based on two main colours ). it is somewhat between realism and illustration. here is the sketch I posted on tumblr few weeks ago~ [link] [ ls - light study ] used photoshop and paint tool sai.Reblog on

I love how the outer and inner edges of the tree stump correlate perfectly, it looks just like if I was 3d modelling this and took the outer faces and extruded them in to give the stump thickness. The little grass on the top is nice too and the blurring on the bottom makes the sharpness on top stand out more.
