The one on the left is fleetway's design. If you're not familiar with it it was from the UK 'Sonic the comic'. In their version she was a tom boy with a cross bow, and she didn't chance Sonic around like a love sick puppy. She was strong and confidant, by far my favourite version of Amy.

I like the more "Sonic esque" Amy. The one where she had quill quills, and didn't look like an echidna. No offense if you like Amy's new design.

Yeah she did go all echidna, there was very little difference between her and Tikal in Sonic Adventure. I will always prefer Classic Amy

Haha, I never had a problem with the character, and still kind of like her, until Sega started beating the 'fan girl chasing her dream boy' dead horse with a stick. Even for Amy's sake I wish they would let her move onto something of a more serious relationship, and no offense to those that ship it, but I've never felt it was Sonic. Lack of chemistry and all...not to mention, in the cartoon, that boy really does not seem like the type that /any/ girl is going to tie down. It was funny at first, but poor Amy deserves for them to quit using her as running, old hat gag.
Beyond that one continual obsession, I really liked her as a character. Sadly, I some how ended up never having a chance to be introduced to Sonic the Comic, and was not familiar with herself from that story.

She had a completely different problem in Fleetway. The fact that the editor, who was a female, was rather feminazi and thus Amy wasn't allowed to EVER make mistakes or have flaws, and she was ment to be the "sensible" member. The writers all made it known they hated writing Amy for that reason.
Yeah. So you either have Stalker or Mary Sue. I'm not sure which is worse, actually.

Aww, that really is a bummer. Β I didn't know much about Amy in Fleetway, though I've seen her designs for that. Β And I could understand why that would suck the fun out of writing her. Β Writing characters getting into trouble and having flaws is fun.

Amy Rose is my favorite female Sonic character. ^^ She's either my second or third favorite Sonic character. Tails is first. and I think Amy is tied with Hero Chao.

Besides that, (not counting these as running against each other, but separate fandoms) Sally and Lupe were my fave females leads from the Archie series, with Mighty and Rosie making up my fav supporting characters.
Cartoon series, I will always have a special place for Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts, more modern....Amy (except the continual gag) and Manic!
Video games....probably Silver and ..oddly enough..Chip (didn't like him at first, but he grew on me, and when he got his memories back...then I really liked him).
But...I have a lot of characters honestly that I really like, so beyond knowing Sonic and Tails are on the top of my list for any of the takes on the series...hard to pick just a few.
