1. Her rival is Cosmo, though it is more of a one sided rivalry fueled by narcessism and jealousy.

2. They are "competing" to be known as the last hope for the seedrian race, though Velvet herself started doing it more for the praise, while Cosmo is working on to because it was the right thing to do.
3. Velvet was alive during the Seedrain Arc of Sonic X and she's probably older than she lets on. Possibly by some Planet Egg tampering enhancing her own healing power, it keeps her young.
4. Despite how she got to this point, the seedrian that Velvet raises (including Ivy) are all treated as family, and Velvet loves them all dearly. They are unaware of how they were brought up, as their origins are a tight lip secret

This is R2 Entry for Velvet. I wanted to makes omething kinda artsy and cool and more...effect heavy. I like it a lot. This description is also going to be a touch long, since I kind of need to delve on the lore I was thinking about for this character for this piece to make a bit more sense, thanks for your patience.

Velvet was one of the original seedrian who were aboard Cosmo's ship during the Sonic X timeline. Her healing abilities were (I believe) one of a kind, and she was treated with high respect and praise from other members of that community, feeding her ego and helped foster a more Narcissistic / God complex attitude. Despite the occasional quip or passive aggressive talk, she got along fairly well with the rest of the crewmates aboard the ship, though at least this was until Cosmo was born.

In the show, it was mentioned that Cosmo was the last seedrian to fully develop from a seed created by her mother Earthia. Meaning her she was seen as the last hope of her kind. Because of that, Cosmo was soon taking away the attention away from Velvet and that of course made her jealous. So what is one to do when your rival is considered "the last hope of the seedrian race?"

After stealing some of the dead seeds last produced by Earthia, Velvet began experimenting, pushing her healing powers to their absolute limit, and probably (though she wouldn't admit it if you asked) siphoning some of the last remaining energy from Earthia's planet egg, until finally. She got one of the seeds to grow and fully develop. This resulted in her "daughter" Aloe.

This image I'm submitting for round 2 is around the time the Metarex attack the seedrian ship, where Cosmo is kidnapped and implanted with the bug that makes her a spy that's dealt later in the season. Velvet, Galaxia, Cosmo and Aloe have one final meeting before they end up getting scattered during the course of the attack. Velvet one one last laugh, if they were to go down with the ship, she wanted to know that Cosmo wasn't the only hope of the seedrian. She was.

I haven't developed the lore further, to possibly explain how she was able to escape the ship, but she does make it off somehow (deux machina?) and starts the colony I mentioned in the previous entry. All the while, Velvet has continued with her little expriments to keep growing and developing seedrians, including Ivy. She does feel like a mother to them, and has the bond to the point where she wants to protect them.
