Description
As you may know, I've had no Photoshop access for a while and so I've turned to traditional art. I recently fell in love with Howl's Moving Castle, so I thought, why not? It may not be as good as my digital work but I had fun doing it anyway. And it looks a lot better in real life. It's on a canvas, done with acrylic paints.Hopefully soon I can do a digital version of Howl - with a tablet!
Howl belongs to Diana Wynne Jones, and his look to Ghibli Studios

I know - I remember that feeling! I think the best place to start is looking up groups that focus on your interests - then you can find awesome artists and potential friends as well

No problem! Well, it doesn't mean much really, it doesn't contribute in any real way to your experience on DeviantArt. Basically they're just there to show off on your profile, and some people collect them. Some people (like me) give them out to people who are active in the community and people whose art they like.

Like I wish there was a little tutorial video they gave you letting you have an idea of what you're doing, or when setting up your profile

Having worked with acrylic paints myself, I understand how difficult it is to create a shapely contour line, especially when unused to traditional art. Because of this I feel the life of the eyes have been lost. To solve this problem, it might serve you well to use a smaller brush/ fineliner and work over stiff jagged lines. I took a look at howl's moving castle art and I noticed to truly emulate the style your eyes also need to be closer together. Observe this image and how round the eyes are

The energetic and rounded, quick strokes are clearly apparent. Capturing that energy will breath real personality into the art.

I know! The eyes looked good until I outlined them >.< I used a reference image and tried to get the eyes as similar as possible, but unfortunately traditional doesn't work like that for me. I'm hoping I can do a better job of those strokes when I do some more digitally. I'll definitely try to capture the energy next time. Thank you again!
