Description Behold: Joel Robinson, shaking his heinder with the girls of Moon Zero Two! Look at him go!

...I think it's a shame that this joke wasn't seen more often on MST3K. Now, I understand that getting up to dance disrupts the flow of the dancer's riffing, and that Joel was not a naturally expressive performer, but still. It could have been a funny running gag. And a very unique joke, suitable only the visual format of this particular show! It could have been made into one of the show's trademarks.

And considering how often the show featured cheesy, exploitive dance numbers....

As implied above, this joke comes from the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode 'Moon Zero Two.' Now, in the actual episode, Joel was dancing during the cartoon-opening credits, but I decided to draw some of the episode's dancing girls instead. Because Joel deserves some time the ladies! ...Even if the ladies do have an atrocious sense of fashion.

"Except for the hair."

"...And the body."

Heh. That had to have been one of the few times when the bots mocked Joel. (As opposed their constant ripping on Mike)

Yeah, they really went to town on him in that first couple of episodes; I'm guessing they didn't develop the father-son dynamic Joel and the bots had until later.

You finally drew him, however it's a silhouette.

Next step, Joel in the open. Can you draw sweet, sleepy-eyed, boyishly dorky & pretty Joelie?

I tried to draw him a while back...But it was of him using his drum-set mech-suit to do battle with Mr. B Natural, and I gave up because that was more complex that I could draw. I really should think of something more mundane to draw him doing....

Yeah, practice first with something more mundane. May him just standing there or a portrait or something. Explain that you're not used to drawing Joel if they ask why he isn't doing anything special.

That was a weird movie.

But only because of the fashion chocies. Othere than that, it seemed like pretty standard space-opera fare.

One of those rare episodes with an animated opening credits. This was definitely a weird movie

One of only two that I can recall...

...Actually, if ignore the awful fashions, this felt like a pretty normal sci-fi movie. Just a typical thriller-story plot, set in a perfectly mundane concept of the future. But still, those fashions are hard to get over....

Ha ha awesome! I haven't seen that episode yet but I do remember some movies with dance in them such as Girl in Gold Boots and the Creeping Terror (not with exploitive dance.)
