Description
"As you've known, I've been spending some time out in the boonies, getting back to nature and getting myself back. It's been a blessing in disguise as I've been able to feel better than ever before. So I figured that after a few days, I'd head back into town and go back to where I started.
Back to basics.
So off to Sturgis I went. Last year I'd made it there with my good friend DaisyPierce2000 , and together we wiped the floor of the tag team battle royale, making off with the titles, and a hefty cash prize. This year, I just went by myself. Thankfully, Cimar understood, as he knew how rough the past month had been. He wanted to be there to support me, but, also knew when I needed to do something myself.
Have I mentioned he's the best? 'cause he is, and I'll fight any broad over the claim that their boyfriend is better!
First day, I enjoyed the sites, caught a funnel cake stand by surprise and demolished one of those. If y'all haven't tried one before, ya gotta eat one. A couple of folks recognized me, and I signed a few autographs, which made me blush more than I'd reckon I would. I also managed to find the one spot that I was looking for...
...the wrestling sign ups.
I was instantly recognized. I mean, I don't like thinking of myself as a local celebrity or anything, but, when only three names have come out of South Dakota recently in the wrestling circuit, Angel, Sandra Lariat, and myself...well, yeah. It's hard to not be recognized.
As such, I couldn't compete in the regular wrestling tournament, which was fine by me. Instead, the person in charge, Roger, wanted to do something...different.
A gauntlet match.
The person who could finally beat me by pin or submission, would get $1000 dollars. If I beat everyone that came forth, then I got it.
I had such a big grin on my face after hearing of this idea. This was going to be perfect for me right now.
Headed out from Sturgis back home after that. Spent some time with Cimar, who made some decadent souffles that are absolutely to die for! Seriously, if y'alls guy can't bake sweets, ya need a new one! The next morning, I woke up right early to do the chores around the ranch, helping out all the ranch-hands About noon Cimar and I headed over to Sturgis to get ready for this gauntlet match. When we got there, my jaw dropped at the sign up sheet.
Fifty names...
Fifty people had signed up to face me in the gauntlet match.
"Well," Cimar said, clapping a hand on my shoulder. "I'd wish you good luck, but I know your opponents are gonna need it more than you to beat you."
It got an eye roll, but also got that shock to dissipate.
"I guess I should get ready for this."
Cimar helped me prep mentally for this match for the next two hours. Helping with some stretches, warm ups and then, finally, emotional support. Finally, it was my time to shine.
I won't bore ya with the details of each of the matches. Opponents were selected randomly to make it fair for everyone. Unfortunately for the first 8 gals, I wanted to end the matches fast so I could save my energy for later. Let me tell ya, I haven't had such quick taps in my "Honky Tonk Blues" (accordion backbreaker) and "Stalk Breaker" (Standing Inverted Texas Cloverleaf) than those first eight matches.
Unfortunately, the next ten or so gals had figured out my strategies and kept away from me as much as they could. You know how hard it is to chase down ten gals in ten matches back to back? By that 18th match, I was breathing a bit harder than before, and a nice shine of sweat had formed. I'm sure I was giving everyone quite the show by the twentieth match, where I faced one of the gals in the tag team tournament from last year who'd I'd personally knocked out. She was the first who managed to get me into a submission hold, a camel clutch, but only for a few seconds before I slipped out and decked her with "Twister Sister" (Roundhouse Kick).
The sun was far past lowered on the horizon, while the stars were starting to blink and twinkle at the reveal of dusk.
The 25th match, I must have looked like a wreck, and only the cheers were keeping me up while the sun finally set behind the Black Hills. I mean, I felt like I'd gone a full minute on Ole' Nasty back in my rodeo days, and that bull nearly ended me after nine seconds. But I couldn't give up.
Not for me...
Not for Cimar...
Not for anything.
Whoever would be the lucky gal to get that $1000, they'd have to suffer as much as I had up to this point.
So that 25th match came around and it was a bruiser. That gal both knew how to wrestle, and how to wear a gal down. She caught me in a piledriver which go a 2.9 count before I got a shoulder up, and her bearhug...
...gah...*rubs back*...I'm still feeling that in my lumbar region.
I managed to get out of that hold, slapping her ears, and while she was discombobulated, nailed her with a cowgirl kick before flopping over top of her for a three count.
I stayed on the mat there for a couple of minutes while my next opponent was introduced, a shy looking brunette with what looked like a homemade wrestling gear. I could spot the stitchwork from a mile away, and even over the beating of my racin' heart, could hear some of the hecklers in the crowd. Her head dropped a bit at some of the racier names being spewed at her by the more drunken folks in the crowd, but ya know what?
I wasn't gonna have any of that.
"What's yer name, girl?" I asked, as I slowly got to my feet, then approached her.
"Wea...Weayaya Fillmore."
"A good strong name," I replied. "Let's make this a good match...shall we. I can see something in your eyes that show ya have a lot more strength than ya think."
She seemed a bit shocked by that revelation, then a slow, curl of a smile graced her lips. She nodded once...then twice, much more enthusiastically, as we headed to our corners.
And let me tell ya...we put on a barnburner! All those guys and gals in the stands and in the back were cheering on Wondrous Weayaya by the time we were through blowing the roof off that arena.
I mean, metaphorically and all that, since it was an outside ring, and by that time the stars were out and...
...sorry, distracted. Anywho...
We put on a showcase that would have made even the most hardcore of wrestling connoisseurs give us a ten out of ten. Weayaya had guts, she had tenacity, and she had a drive that just needed some budging to get revved up. And ya know? She's the first to also escape out of my "Honky Tonk Blues" in such a unique way, I still ain't sure how she went and dun it. But I do know what happened after. The little slippery lady hopped down behind me, wrapped her arms around me, and tossed me back in a suplex that left me flying through the ring ropes and onto the ground outside.
Even laying there, on the rough, hand sewn-fixed mats on the dusty ground outside of Sturgis High, being in agony and pain...I couldn't help but smile.
This gal would be the real deal one day. That was for certain!
The match continued, but I was done more than a s'more dropped in a campfire. Wea rolled me back into the ring, hauled me into an argentine backbreaker, dropped me down, and raised my leg for a one, two three.
I may have lost, but Weayaya got a victory that was worth more than anything money could buy.
I'd lasted 25 rounds. I'd beaten 25 opponents, and also got to see the next generation who was gonna come up behind me. And boy...did that warm my heart more than a Badlands summer day. It was a night to remember, and it reminded me of what I had needed all along; to get back to home...
...back to myself.
...back to basics.
