Back story: Ruby and her younger sister Vicky were raised by their Uncle after their parents were killed in a robot attack when they were little. While Vicky pursued her interest in music, Ruby instead followed in her Uncle's footsteps and studied to become a Treasure Hunter and dreams of exploring the world, searching for treasures and discovering ancient civilisations. She studied for years on ancient cultures, famed archaeologists and other languages, and once she was old enough, her Uncle gave her the money to start her own career in Treasure Hunting and opened a for hire business, where she would either search for treasures on her own and sell them to museums, or be hired by others. Unfortunately her lack of experience in the field made things difficult starting out due to having to hire other hunters for help. Despite inheriting her Uncle's list of information contacts and good reputations with museums, her business wasn't showing a lot of profit.

Then one night while walking passed the local museum, she spotted an intruder breaking in. Feeling the urge to protect any artefacts from being stolen, she entered the building herself and caught the thief, a wolf called Umbra in the act. Their brief fight trips the alarms so Umbra escapes but Ruby gets dragged along for the ride due to not wanting to be caught herself. After they both lose the Police Umbra explains to Ruby what he was doing and that he wasn’t going to steal anything because there wasn’t anything magic in the museum. Ruby sees that Umbra isn’t a bad guy and offers him a deal, since she has connections with people that know when a certain artefact is rumoured to be found, it’ll be easier and legal for Umbra to find treasure, if its magical Umbra does with it what he wishes but if it isn’t he and Ruby sell it to a museum, in return Umbra becomes Ruby’s permanent treasure hunter so she doesn’t have to hire others. Umbra agrees and is now an equal partner in Ruby's business which they decide to call "Team Eclipse Treasure Hunters".

Things would soon get much weirder when Umbra returns from a mission in the Mystic Ruins with two new friends; Lunas the Echidna, a warrior from another world now stranded in this one, and Rej the Reject, a robot who escaped from Eggman's junkyard and wants a life of freedom. Ruby was initially not happy with this as Umbra basically adopted the two strays without asking her first, but she soon sympathised with their situation and agrees to take them on as long as they earn their stay by joining the Treasure Hunting business. Thanks to Lunas' great strength, Rej's technology, Umbra's skills and magic and Ruby's knowledge and leadership, the little business became more successful and well known. Ruby herself also got trained by Umbra and Lunas to become a better fighter and be more capable in the field alongside them.

The team would truly become established once they faced Team Hex, a group of villains led by the Witch Hex the Bat who is targeting Umbra's magic Omni Rings. They would fight over artefacts or fend off some of their wicked schemes and things would only get worse once the evil Gwynn, master of the Black Flame Cult joins Hex and converts her small group into a growing army of darkness. Soon Ruby and her team would gain the attention of the mysterious Gem the Wolf and her magical Order of the White Flame, whose history coincides with the Omni Rings and would prove to be great allies and friends against the Cult of the Black Flame. Ruby would make more friends and enemies as she and her team continue their work as Treasure Hunters for hire as well as doing Odd Jobs on the side. Thanks to their abilities and skill they basically become Metal City Zone's resident Freedom Fighter group once the Botanical Kingdom Zone chapter of the Eggman Army attempts to invade. Many more wonderful adventures await Ruby and her friends.

Personality: Ruby is a kind and caring person with a soft spot for young children and values her friends and family above all else, caring about them deeply and is a strong and reliable friend to all her allies. While she prefers to find peaceful and clever solutions to a problem, she is ready for action when the situation calls for it with a passion that both friends and enemies call fiery. She is very attached to Umbra as she is saved by him numerous times and can get jealous over him easily but she knows that no matter what he will never abandon her, she also learns how to ride extreme gear so she and Umbra can ride together. She is very intelligent and is the smartest member of the team and can read and translate a number of ancient languages so she acts as the history and legends expert of the team. She loves history and finds almost any ruin or ancient relic, no matter its value, fascinating and wants to learn more about it. Her main job is to be the team leader, history and legends expert and business negotiator, effectively making her the brains and heart of the team's business. Ruby is a career girl who loves her job, making money and finding new clients and advancing the Team's business future but is also careful around those with shady backgrounds. She also enjoys bossing the others around a bit but only during work hours.

- Like most characters she can use the Chaos Emeralds to transform into "Super Ruby", which gives her the usual enhanced abilities a super form has such as strength, speed, flight and invulnerability. Her fur turns a dirty gold, and the orange fur in her years and tail tip turn a dark shade. She also drops her pistol holster as she won't need her weapon and she loses her jacket for more freedom of movement.

Babylon Stunner:
After a mission in Babylon Garden, Ruby acquired a stun pistol from the city's armoury. A high tech, one handed gun that can fire electric bolts at targets stunning them for a short period of time. The shots can be fired rapidly for small quick attacks or charged up for a larger, more effective blast. Recently got upgraded by Rej to include a grapple mode that can fire an energy tether that can grab onto objects or ledges. With this feature Ruby can use to swing from high places, stop herself falling or grapple others. The Stunner has a limited energy supply and needs to be recharged frequently.

Gaian Treasure Dowser (G.T.D. or Dowser for short):
Once belonging to a famous Treasure Hunter, this compass like device was re-discovered by Ruby during a mission to explore an underground ruin, where she not only found the Dowser but the remains of the famous treasure hunter and a diary explaining how he became so famed thanks to the Dowser helping him in his treasure hunts. The dowser is a mystical device believed to originate from the Gaia Civilisation due to the unique image on the face matching the Gaia Manuscripts. It has the ability to detect and guide whoever holds it to whatever object they are looking for; the compass arrows pointing in the direction and the gemstone arrows glowing different colours (green, yellow, red) the closer the object is and making a "Pinging" sound in increasing frequency. The Dowser has a limited range and only works if the object is within the general area, also it can only locate inanimate objects (not people or places) and must be considered lost or undiscovered to the holder. To activate it Ruby simply presses the button on the top while thinking of the object she is hunting for (a mental image or a name is all it needs) and once the object is claimed it'll deactivate by itself. Ruby has added the Dowser to her personal equipment ever since finding it and has put it to great use in her Treasure Hunts.
Extreme Gear Bike:
Ruby has her own custom Extreme Gear "Treasure Fox II", an upgrade to her old board gear. An agile but durable Bike type gear. It can collapse into a Pack Mode for easy storage and carrying when not in use.

Communicator:
Like all members of Team Eclipse, Ruby has a small communicator device built by Rej, hidden under her wrist band that allows her to communicate with the others. The device can either do simple audio, or project a holographic screen to display who she is talking to.

Hook Rope:
Before obtaining her Babylon Stunner, Ruby use to wield a rope with a Grappling hook on the end as a weapon. She would use this to climb walls, swing from ledges, and attack and grapple enemies or objects from a distance. Since getting the stunner though, Ruby has stopped using the Hook Rope, but can still fall back on it if her pistol isn't working.

Fears and Flaws: Although a good evader and jumper she’s not very strong or durable so she is vulnerable to a stronger opponent and has to rely on her evasion, wits and her equipment in the field. Ruby has a sensitive level of self confidence, while being very brave most of the time, she can get scared when put into dangerous situations too big for her to handle, triggering her quirk of hugging her own tail for comfort. She can resist this when her life or others are on the line and power through it to save the day, but she will break down in tears later once the danger has passed

Creator’s Notes: Ruby originally began as a secondary character compared to my main team, as I only spared little time to think of her details. I based her original design off a background character of a web comic I read and made a sprite of her. But it looked too much like the character from the comic so I changed the look a little. She started to take more shape in character the more I developed the others as she was Umbra’s girlfriend. It wasn’t until I hired a proper artist to do pictures of my characters that Ruby really leapt from secondary to a primary character, I decided to include her in the line up more or less on a whim and when the picture was done she looked way better then I ever imagined, the reason for this was that the artist had to make up certain details as I lacked any reference of Ruby at the time. The new design was completely different from the design I based her off and the new features the artist added were excellent. After that I got to work on making Ruby a profile like I did with Umbra and the others but because I didn’t put that much thought into her at the moment I had to use all the creative skills I had, what would she do in a game, how would she fight, what abilities would she possess and most importantly what was her overall personality. After a couple of days of thought and experimentation I had a proper main female character complete with a back-story and gimmicks that can compete with the others. Over the years, thanks to reading the Archie Comics and RPs with my friends online, Ruby developed even further in both personality and design. Most of the time its hard to decide who is the main character, her or Umbra as she becomes a very well loved person amongst the characters belonging to my friends. She has also become my favourite subject of commissions from other Sonic artists, specifically if they have great styles depicting female characters.
