Description
Here I go, submitting my 3D designs !For those who could wonder, I used Blender, a free 3D modelling software.
Don't hesitate to criticize, and tell me what I could do to improve this design.
For those who know pretty well stargate, this idea was inspired by the Ancient control crystals (I said inspired, it is not meant to be a copy). This part is the first step to the design of some futuristic computer
Any praise or idea is welcome !

Ooh, stargate and blender.. I should fav it just for that
I like the blue material a lot, but the (noise?) texture in the red part isn't that realistic. Just plain red with reflections and ray mirror should do the trick

I know the texture is not really good...especially when you know that I want it to look like copper ! I will try to render it better, promise ! Stay tuned for further improvements

I will! It's nice to see a fellow "blender student" so I want to see how you develop. So keep posting your work for your watchers to see, ok?

You bet !
I won't be able to work on my project for a week (a final report to write, and I'm freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee), but after that, I think it'll be open blender, all day long...hum, maybe not !
But I'm sure I will have some fun almost every day with it.
And about my copper texture, if you know some good technique to make some, I'd be glad to know it !I confess that since I didn't manage to create it, it chose to make something like some brushed copper...but it doesn't look that good ! Better than nothing, but still...
Thanks for your replies !

You could use this material as a template [link]
I know it's a bit of a cheat but you can learn new stuff from the blend-files there if you explore them. Just append all the stuff from the material blend file to your crystal chip project and apply the template material to the mesh.
It's good to hear that you'll be blendering a lot

I already knew this site, but while searching new things, I found that it didn't work well because a material (especially with raymirror) needs an environment to reveal its true nature ! Now I now better how to make it work.
When I have a little spare time, I work on the computer where the chip (which will be really bigger than just a chip, by the way) will fit. it begins to have a interesting shape, and the copper doesn't look half bad !
Maybe you could help me about oen thing : is there a way to make something folder-like here, on deviant-art ? A way to regroup different art-works together ?
Anyway, I post the beginning of the computer, and with luck, you'll see were the chips will go (don't worry, as it will be like some sort of drawer, I'll do so that one can see one of the chip outside the computer, as if it were in maintenance.
As always, don't hesitate to tell me everything you think could be better (and also what you like !!!)

You can make folders to your gallery if that's what you mean. There whould be a "+" button somewhere in the left column of your gallery or something. They will still be separate deviations though.
I will comment your works and I'll help anyway I can (I'm still a bit noob at blender) and I'd appreciate if you'd do the same for me once in awhile if you have the time

I'm not into Stargate so for me its more like the "minority reports" dream card

Though Minority Report wasn't my first thought when I made this model, later on I thought it could fit in the film...seems I'm not the only one to think so
