If you watch the special 2 episodes, the silhouette of Papillon before transformation is indeed Gabriel Agreste, AND [SPOILER] in the last episode with all the zombies, Gabriel tried to steal Ladybug's earrings and he discovered that Chat Noir and Adrien are the same person D:!!
So, basically, it is confirmed that Papillon is Adrien's father.

Personally, after seeing some of the newest episodes that came out in France. I have to say that my feelings that Gabriel is Hawk Moth have been poked and prodded with a lot of doubt now.

Idk, Gabriel also has(or used to have) an ancient book on the Miraculous(es?!) and the holders in ancient China hidden in a safe and a copy or the real Peacock miraculous by his wife's photo inside it( Volpina episode). Besides, time sometimes gets dilated or contracted in the case of the miraculous users for the sake of the plot. Then there's the irony of Adrien's sneakers black butterfly design. Being a model contracted by his father, he's supposed to wear in public at least one item representing the brand. Then there's Gabriel's reaction to both Chat's and Adrien's ring, especially with Chat, he looked like he wanted to try and slide it off his finger >.>
