Edit 12/10/2014: deviantArt has made a lot of changes since this tutorial was first made so I finally went back and corrected it. You do NOT have to be a premium member to have stamps. Just follow the steps in the tutorial.
I'm not sure if someone has made this before. They probably have and have done a better job.
BUT I get this question quite often so I've made this to link people to when they ask. I feel like I can show better than tell.

That's what you copy and paste into your profile I.D. section and journal entry on DA as a non-premium member. I've since tried it in a comment but it doesn't work for comments, I'm afraid.

I've just tried to put a stamp in one of my own drawing's description but it didn't work. My only explanation is that premium members can only do that, I'm afraid.

And you're very much welcome too. And, yeah, the Premium Membership is something you need to pay for But... on the flipside, it could be a lot worse in terms of what non-paying members can do (Glares at Freemium games) and paying members help to keep the site going too

Actually you don't need to be a premium member to use stamps anymore

It's really strange. I'm trying to put these stamps in a description for my artwork, when I 'preview' the description, the stamps show - but when I submit, they're gone.
