Description
This is the official reference sheet for my closed species: Cake Pups! As some of you may know, this species is still in it's early stages. This means that there could still be changes made to traits and such. But I wanted to have a reference sheet uploaded to the group with the new traits I added! c:Keep in mind this is mainly for Cake Pups! Grump Pups and Gourmet Pups will be similar but with an extra trait or two that makes them special. I'll be posting another sheet that shows the difference between them!
Cake Pups who have already been made can decide which Magic Aura they would like. Please note the group for approval though!
Common Traits:
Ears: Folded or Perky
Tails: Short or Medium (can be curled!)
Accessories: Cake Pups can have any accessories!
Stick: May be placed on the head, back, or rear (right above the tail).
-solid white color
-short or medium length
Magic Aura: New Trait! This aura is what brings the pups to life and keeps them alive! Common aura is magical energy that wraps around the stick. This can be any shape. 1 color only and glows.
Uncommon Traits:
Ears: Mismatched (one floppy and one perky)
Tails: Long
Hair: short or medium length
Stick: Solid color other than white
-patterned
-wooden popsicle stick
Magic Aura: In some cases the aura will be more concentrated and will take a physical form. This form will tend to float above the stick. Magic dust will fall from it.
Rare Traits:
Ears: Round or Long (can be floppy or perky)
Tails: Other tails not mentioned in the other 3 rarity teirs. This includes real animal tails (i.e lion or pony) or mythical tails (i.e mermaid, dragon).
Hair: Long length
Companions: living creatures that stay with them
Other Features: this includes features such as wings and horns
Stick: Edible (i.e pretzel), non-straight, or other object (i.e straws, candles, etc)
Magic Aura: In rare instances, the aura takes a physical form that does not float above the stick. Instead it is worn as an accessory that can not be removed (or the pup will cease to exist D: ). This item will sparkle or glow to show it's energy.
Limited Edition Traits (reserved for Gourmet Pups, special events, or guest artists):
Tails: Big and curly, whispy, elemental, edible
Multiple Body Parts: Heads, tails, eyes, etc...

Yeah edible and mis-shapen sticks are reserved for rare traits. c:
Stick placement is the same regardless of rarity, so it can be placed either on the head, back, or rear

One quick question:
I saw that a cake pup was drippy, is the drip rare or does it not really matter?
Mainly because for the MYO's i'm planning on doing a lava cake- since I think it'd make for a fun to eat cake pop. xD

The one you saw was a Grump Pup, based off of a recipe gone wrong but honestly I might revise the species a bit so it doesn't matter.

Sure I don't mind if you have a marking of a third eye as long as it's obvious it's a marking rather than an actual eye.
Make it stylized or use a different texture or something to show that and i'm good with it c:

so I'm extremely new to this side of deviantart I have been reading a lot on closed species and trades or auctions of different characters from these species. I'm not entirely sure how any of it works, when you purchase a specific character does it then become your legal property and you're like allowed to make your own art of it? and what is stopping others from creating their own characters from close species and make it have any kind of rarity they want? is there some sort of copyright protection there? I don't understand and I'm hopelessly lost ;_; I really want to know how all f it works so I could maybe make my own and or purchase some but all I've been able to assume Is that it goes off of some sort of honor system

From what I understand:
When you purchase an adopt you are purchasing the rights to the character (not the original art of the character though, the design). Now this does not necessarily mean that you can use that character for merchandising purposes. That depends on the rules of the artists and whether they'll allow it or not. Mainly these types of characters people sell are for personal use (like drawing, commissioning art of it, and roleplay).
I have seen people just make up a new "species" with like literally the same traits as the one they saw.. so basically copying/theft. There's this "revolt" going on now that's just absolutely ridiculous.. but that's another story haha. I guess there's nothing stopping you from doing it but you get a bad rep for it. Plus if it's serious, you can get reported to DA. Also, most people tend to stick with "official" adopts (those made by or recognized by the closed species community) because some groups offer exclusive benefits (like raffles and such). Also it's like buying Craft mac n cheese versus store brand mac n cheese if that makes sense haha.
Hm.. I don't know about any honor system. To get an official closed species adopt you can either buy one already made (from original creator/ guest artists), buy a MYO slot (cheaper and you design it yourself), trade them (if you agree to trade with another person and happen to get one. Must have proof and be approved), OR you can win one! (some groups hold raffles and such). Once you own an official adopt you will be put on a Masterlist. This shows that.. well... what you own is the real deal haha.

Yes! thank you so much, it makes a lot more sense to me, and yea you sort of answered my question about the honor system in the first part of the response, and basically yea it does go off one, because as you said if you just stole people's ideas and concepts for a species they'd get a bad rep and/or reported. I've been seeing a lot of your adopt posts and stuff and honestly most of them look amazing so I have been considering buying my own but I needed to be more informed on such a things before making a purchase. Are you the one who made the cake pup species? because I was considering maybe getting one of those cuz they look absolutely delicious

Oh on a side note, just as an FYI, there are open species and closed species. Closed means you can not make your own unless you have permission (like my cake pups); whereas, open means you can make one without permission. Some open species (if not all) will allow you to make and sell adopts of that species. A good example of an open species would be Flufferbuns

So far they seem to go for around $7 - $15 ish depending on rarity and also what else people have to offer (such as art.. since my other adopts have been OTA so far)
However, there's a cheaper version called a Baby Cake which costs around $2/200

Oh also, looking at all of winterhyena's adopts, I think you should add head shapes/fin shapes/extra fins to the rarity guide! If you're still looking for more features that is. It would be perfect and still give people more creative freedom ;v;
