Furthermore it is morbidly dystopic: a close examination reveals
that the male has no hands...

No...its very dystopic, S,....the lady is out of reach, literally, and there is ruin all around....
It would be utopic if there were no ruin, and the figures faced each other, or were clearly aware of each other, for instance....

....but there are some remnants of utopia.... I can't seem to find this picture, where the male has his hands...most frustrating...
esp since I only have one male model...

They are an intrinsic part of the theme.... darn....I had taken pains to make them painterly, as well....

wow. . . breathtaking. . . the figures on the right corner are a little out of place and distracting but the ruins on the left are stunning

For sure, they could be better posed....but landscapes, esp this, often need naturist humans.....

I have no problem w/them being naked (and I seriously envy your skills w/the brush), they just aren't very well integrated into the landscape, proportionally they're rather disproportionate the the surrounding area and they just seem too bright compared to the overall mood and twilight cast to the painting

I think these are most valid points, esp their proportions relative to the rest of the landscape. Perceptive. And yes, the lighting could be much improved...I will at some point make a much larger version of this that's suitable for hanging on a wall...and for different media, e.g., ....fabric, glass...
...the whole aesthetic equation changes when the work is on glass, and there is translucent light from behind...
But, I could make a print on paper to illustrate that its not bad as is, when
roughly a 16" wide... let me know beforehand and I will adjust the DA print prices temporarily for you for that...

I think having this done in glass would really lend to the moodiness of the lighting, especially as the sun shifts across the sky during the course of the day thus changing what parts are in full sun and shade and how different weather would affect the lighting (grey dreary day vs. dazzling snowy morning)

Apart from the people not looking as though they fit in the landscape, it's quite lovely.

...see my comment above.... the apparent mistake with lighting
and the questionable (?) poses
disappear as if my magic, when this piece is printed on a large fabric or textured paper.... this piece is 1000% better when not displayed on a monitor...giclee for instance, does wonders you would not believe.....
