Most Americans, I believe, still think that America is a victim.
They simply don't know enough about what the US Government has been doing for the last few decades , and I tend to think that even when the knowledge comes knocking on their doors - they shrug it off with a self-righteous shrug, as though no American could possibly be involved in acts of evil.
Any 'incidents' can always be blamed on the 'occasional bad apple'...like Sgt. England.
It is, apparently, very easy for America not to follow up on things, not to realize that when Rumsfeld, for instance, says he 'accepts full responsibility' - that something should happen based on that admission. Yet, although he claimed to accept full responsibility, Rumsfeld has not been tried, has not resigned, has not been fired, or suffered any punitive result whatsoever. In effect, his admission of responsibility is just so much voodoo. News-fodder.
It's a horrible situation, and I honestly can't believe it's going to get any better anytime soon.
I've reached a point where I honestly wanted Bush to win.
I'm sick of Democrats and Republicans ( cue laugh track...) playing Good Cop / Bad Cop to the world - and right now - now that at least most of the world's civil society (don't ask me to define that one...) have come to understand - or to begin to understand what America has done and is doing - I do not want that thrust to be lost, as I'm sure it would have been if Kerry had won. He'd have smiled, pulled a Clinton, shook hands - and appeased the world - and the world, sick of everything would have wanted to believe that whereas Bush came to Iraq as an invader, Kerry would have been there to clean up 'Bush's mess'. The world, as it always tends to do, would have probably forgetten, and forgiven, and would have gone back to work, thinking the 'bad guy' had been punished. As though going back to being an unskilled spoilt brat is somehow 'fitting' punishment for the murder of (according to John Hopskins ) at least 100,000 innocent Iraqi's, tens of thousands of Afghani's, the invasion and occupation of two nations, and lying to the world at large.
This would all have been forgiven, forgotten. Arabs would have taken the bait, and would have gone back into KFC, fall back in love with the Big Mac , and happily payed their hard-earned money watching Die Hard 17 - having conveniently forgotten about, for example, Bruce Willis' stance on the war. They might even have accepted the ' Team America: World Police ' grotesque puppetry, that portrays Tim Robbins and Sean Penn as witless accomplices to terrorism.
Pathetic.
And you know - despite all this - when Bush won this time around - I was still surprised and it left me feeling a great dread. Like a shadow had come upon the Earth.
May this world one day be healed.

interesting reading the other comments really. i do find this crass and maybe a little tasteless, but i also find it true and funny as hell. (except i doubt he reads in that little room. maybe it's a picture book?)
maybe take the same bite and go for something with more subtlety?

Well, let me in on this I am a 25 year old American and right now I have never been so embarrassed in my life as to beeing an American. I have the fucking government to thank for this... I hate what is sitting in Washington D.C. He sould be taken out and shot like an old dog. I am an American and I am glad to say that. I don't mean any harm towards that Asshole but he should think before running again for office. He needs to get out of town and the fucking Repubicans need to shut the fuck up, and let someone run this government without the words of "War, Sadam, Kill, Kill, Kill in there heads and dreams.
Sorry to go on about this but I stand were I stand and no one can change that, ever . I do think that Iraq is a better place since Saddam is gone that is one thing that Oil Hungry Cock AKA George W. has done while he has been in office I will give that to him but what the fuck has he doen for the Americans? Yeah no prob, I do think that being an American has high status, but when you have been tought that America is the Big Brother to the other countries then it kinda shows the is what American is. If other countries could control there own people then they wouldn't have to ask American to give them a hand at controling the other people. I do think that with all 100% of my mind that if you are an American then you have more power then someone from another country except Europe they are another Big Brother to the World. I am not saying that the World owe's America a big fav. It's just that I am sick and tierd of American Governments not just Bush but other head-figures of America helping the others around the world when America has people on it's own land that need help also. Once again, your a master, everything achieved at a glance. Brilliantly done, although qual could be ramped up a bit, edges are blurry but that's a small point.
You should stick these works on T-shirts, sounds crass but the only way to fight propaganda is with better propaganda and T-shirts are something ya can't hide from.

On the subject of oil and Iraq, you guys have heard of Halliburton right? Dick Cheney's old oil company. !Well as it ends up his boys got the exclusive right to develop the Iraqi oilfields, NO CONTEST! There was supposed to be open-bidding, haven't seen that happen, haven't read it in the paper. Of course, if all goes well and it will, they plan on using the money "earned" to rebuild the country. Now here's my questions, whose buying? And don't ya think thats kinda suspicious?

As much as i think you did a great job on this piece, and you did a wonderful job in portraying your message, i peacefully disagree with it. (i dont want to get in a pointless fight like you and buildingclimber ) I think that it was a wise decision for america to get involved in iraq. The few civilians that we killed was nothing compared to the civilians that saddam killed throughout the time of his political reign. Keep in mind, saddam did have powerful weapons. Assuming that he put them to use, the same people that are calling bush a fool for attacking iraq would probably be calling him a fool for not stopping him. Thats all i have to say.
