Description Grand Canyon, May 2005.

After recovering from the initial shock from the sheer immensity of this hole in the ground, I think most photographers must be staggered by the photographic options before them. I ended up shooting close to 3 rolls of film in the 4 hours we spent wandering the footpaths along the south rim. This is one of my personal faves. Would love to hear what you think...?

I was just at the Grand Canyon about a week ago!
I have a few suggestions for you and this picture. First, I suggest a darker border, preferably black, to make the colors of the canyon stand out more - also of even width all the way around.
Second, the lighter piece of another part of the canyon in the upper left hand corner is a little distracting to me eye. If you would've moved the lens down slightly, you could've prevented this problem.
It looks a little hazy in this picture - it was like that when I went there too. It was a little disappointing, but you get past that when you look at the grandeur and vastness of the canyon. Nice job!

wonderful depth and colour ... great results from the scanner, I must look at some old 35mm negs and slides ... after seeing your
results it is obviously worth the effort to digitalise now, the quality is superb !!!

It took me a long time to research and decide what to buy, but I'm really happy with the Coolscan V. I haven't made a poster print yet, but the fact that I can, and I can go bigger than I could with an 8MP digital makes me very happy.

Awesome view, this brings so much distance to the audience. u must have had fun there. i went once and hiked nearly to the bottom of the canyon and this was during winter. so huge, its like a mile deep.

Excellent capture, love the contrast in the lighting & color on the canyon walls from front to back. It really hard to capture the feel of the place, it so vast

Gorgeous . Your composition of this shot is very nice. Have you tried it in B&W? The color is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but i'd like to see a b&w version . That may ruin the depth of the shot though, hard to tell . Anyway, my point is, WOW .

Thanks so much! It's so hard to get shots of the GC that actually have depth, because the light and colours really play tricks with your eyes, so I'm pretty pleased with this one. I'm glad you like it.

aspirit In reply to webworm [2006-06-06 23:12:51 +0000 UTC]

I think it depends on how close you are to the edge, and there are lots of edges, with varying degrees of steepness.

webworm In reply to aspirit [2006-06-19 18:59:39 +0000 UTC]

You are right! I hate steep edges! Really makes me feel sick. Cannot look at it when people stand close to a steep edge either!!
