Just wondering, when you're making shadows a different color/lightened, do you  use an overlay or lighten filter?

To bring different colours to different values (shadow, light, etc.) I tend to use adjustment layers such as Colour Balance and Curves
Sometimes I play around in my colour group (set to multiply) with a layer on top where I softly brush. But I end up doing that mostly for certain colour mixings, such as blushing or multicoloured eyes.
