New addition for my Season 6 Episode Art!Season 6, Episode 6: No Second Prances
For more info on my episode art: MLP:FIM Season 5 Episode Art Streams
This episode was pretty great... and powerful.
The dynamic with Trixie's facade worked quite well, hah. Brought some interesting back-n-forth moments, wrong things being said at the wrong time, her being a bit misunderstood, at times revealing a bit of her softer nature underneath. I suppose since she is a show pony, she's used to hiding a lot from the public.
There seemed to be a slight dark tone, though, when she threw everything away in the Manticore once she lost here friend! Well, not necessarily have to read into it like that, but it's possible to do so heh. Then there was Twilight forcing stuff haha, and the fun little addition that was Celestia
All in all, quite the joy to watch.
As for my art, decided to make this new specimen of Manticore! With bushy eyebrows and horns this time around! Feels like I went with a simpler, rougher, quicker art style again... Not sure if just lazy, or avoiding additional work (composition changed), or something... I suppose the focus was the dynamic of the composition, as opposed to a refined character. But I still feel like I could've cleaned it up more here and there, or at least something... Either way, as long as the result is enjoyed right?
Anyhow, hope y'all enjoyed the episode, and the third appearance of the great and powerful! We may just see her even more now, hehe.

At no point is this meant to hurt feelings it is meant as an honest review of the picture and if the artist wishes to discuss the review or needs more details I would be happy to discuss it with them. Now without any further delay onto the review.
Vision: Okay thou it's a clip from the show it still has some vision and really what saves this from scoring low in this category is the look on Trixie's face. So 3 stars here.
Originality: Again it's a scene from the show, but from a different angle. Not to mention the detail, but yet it still only scores 3 stars.
Technique: Thou it's digital and not my favorite style but it uses a very brushed look and is full of detail and I'd have to say job well done and 3 stars.
Impact: Okay omit it when you watching the show part of you didn't want Trixie to survive then the other part reminded you that this was a kids show. Well this brings back that first part. So 3.5 stars.
Overall a great picture and thou it needs a little work it is still great on its own. On thing that would help the picture in my opinion is if the camera angle was from the Manticore's mouth.

I agree. Even though I knew they wouldn't dare actually show a character dying, I still felt a certain level of sadness and fear when this bit of the story played out. Not only because Trixie is my favorite character of all, but because of the sheer amount of defeat in her voice as she was prepping for the show. She'd messed up the one thing she wanted for so long, and the guilt made her depressed enough to actually try a stunt she knew she couldn't pull off on her own. My feels were thoroughly dashed against the rocks.
I didn't even think they'd be willing to touch on this sort of subject, let alone actually go through with a scene that mimicked it. I love Trixie and Starlight even more than I already did after watching this.

Talk about fast food.
Nice angle. You could have gone from Trixie's perspective as we looked down the manticore's mouth, but I like this angle better because it wasn't from the show, so it gives the scene a unique perspective.

It reminds me of and old Tom & Jerry cartoon where a little duck almost sacrifice itself so Tom can eat it but in the last moment Tom save it.

Well, the important thing is she went out doing what she was passionate about. It's ok Trixie, every pony forgave you. Rest in piece.

Trixie flying to her doom?
Got to agree. That part was dark. We could see how emotionally important it was for Trixie to finally get a friend that was ready to... Oof! Not the first case in this show. I like angle you chose, mostly because we can see Trixie'S reaction to what we will happen if she fails.
Awesome work. Keep making those dynamics pieces.

Amazing composition. The camera angle gives everything a sense of urgence, of impeding doom - and a certain lack of power of the viewer. Trixie expression is superb, and, again, the perspective makes the peril even bigger. Well done!

Manticore gulps, licks lips.
Starlight yammers with Twilight about friendship stuff and then blinks, "Wait, wasn't there something I was supposed to be..." Manticore's stomach gurgles. "Ohhhhhhhhhh... uhm... we can clone a new Trixie with magic, right?"
;D

I enjoyed this episode a lot myself. I could really relate to her mood once she lost Starlight, though. She basically figured she lost the first and only friend she ever had, so what did it matter from then on, might as well go on with the show, as that was all she had left, ya know?

Gahh, I've been wanting to watch the episode but I can't seem to find it ANYWHERE. There's usually one site I go to which has all of them, but it doesn't even have this episode :/
never mind, it finally has the episode now ;-;

My attention was first grabbed by the huge orange/red mass to the left but was immediately pointed straight to the actual core of the image, Trixie's expression. I like the way you "focussed" the image there by doing that fully detailed and the rest 'rougher' so that it gave an out-of-focus impression. Brilliant as always
As for the episode, I liked it but thought Twilight's disquiet was overplayed (a lot) and Celestia seemed strangely silent when sat with some of "her little ponies".

I wasn't very impressed with the episode, to be honest. I mean, it had its moments and Trixie and Starlight getting along was pretty cute, but... Ugh. Twilight was being a complete nutcase again and it wasn't funny this time. It was What About Discord? all over again, except maybe even worse. Why must the writers make her appear so stupid and forget the lessons she's already learned to create drama? She didn't trust Trixie because Trixie was under the Alicorn Amulet's power when she enslaved Ponyville for about one day, but she was willing to forgive Starlight for brainwashing her villagers for years and almost destroying Equestria? Yeah, that's not hypocritical at all. Twilight has been written extremely poorly lately and that's very disappointing. I totally understand why Celestia looked so unimpressed.
Anyway, like I said, the episode had its moments. Starlight trying to make friends was adorkable and we got to see Trixie's softer side. It was pretty disturbing to see her almost kill herself, though. Did she even consider that Starlight might have already gone back to the castle and therefore could not have helped her out of the manticore's mouth? Yikes.
I don't think there's much else to say about this one. My original score for it was 6/10 when I first saw it, but now that I think about it, it probably deserves 7/10 at least, my usual score for mediocre episodes.

It suffers from Protagonist Overachievement Syndrome.
This is a case where a story has their central character or characters reach the Ultimate Level too early on, then has to downplay their powers and/or render then incompetent at various times to keep making stories, otherwise they solve the problem instantly or never have the problem in the first place.
I've said it many times, and episodes like this keep requiring me to reiterate: Twilight got her wings too soon.

Hmm, you may have a point there. I don't actually mind Twilight's wings and I know she's not perfect, but I just don't want her to stalk her friends from bushes like she did in season one. Is that too much to ask?

I would have been even more touched if she went into the manticore quietly, like she was so hopeless and felt like such scum that she feels she deserved it. good episode ^^ and I like that view you did on the manticore!

It's just an illusion. What she calls a Manticore looks to be no more than a shabby, toothless lion. And she has that whole crowd believing that poor old ape with the twisted foot is a Satyr! Illusions, deceptions, mirages!
