This tutorial is long outdated. If you want to get a start on animation, I suggest checking out spritefan2's YouTube playlist  as he goes into more depth than this tutorial does.

wow. Any good places for sounds you can think of?

Some are in .fla format that I can't give out to any without permission, and some are gathered from YouTube or sound collection sites.

on your videos, when a character starts twirling their blade, is that the same layer or is the twirling sword seperate?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-06-03 23:39:50 +0000 UTC]

Same layer.

BoltBlades12 In reply to AssassinKnight-47 [2015-06-10 23:23:34 +0000 UTC]

is it two different objects on the same layer or what?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-06-10 23:28:04 +0000 UTC]

Like I said ages ago, one thing per layer.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BoltBlades12 In reply to AssassinKnight-47 [2015-06-11 11:36:08 +0000 UTC]

so the sword is one layer and the character is another?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-06-11 11:50:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. It'll be impossible to tween two things or more on one layer, it'll just screw it up.

BoltBlades12 In reply to AssassinKnight-47 [2015-06-11 12:01:38 +0000 UTC]

ok. is there a tutorial for sword twirlings?

Elaborate a bit more. Spinning the sword itself or using the sprites of a sword spinning?

Hey, I'm having a crapload of trouble with the vCam, could you tell me how I'm supposed to get it to work properly please?

EDIT: Nvm, was using the wrong vCam.

EDIT AGAIN: Greaaat, now more trouble is happening. So, the rectangle bit that's supposed to be my camera? When I ctrl-enter, it doesn't show the correct selection.

As shown here,  the camera seems to point more upwards than intended. Any idea why or how to fix it?

So how do you only play part of a song instead of the whole thing? Because I want to start the song somewhere in the middle.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-04-12 22:05:15 +0000 UTC]

Set the song on Stream, and put a blank keyframe on the same layer with the song where you want to end it. Go to your Properties and there should be a little subsection beneath the selected song. Set that on "Stop".

BoltBlades12 In reply to AssassinKnight-47 [2015-04-25 01:56:02 +0000 UTC]

I meant like I want to play a part in the middle of a song without wasting a whole bunch of time on the whole first part of the song. How do I get it to start playing in the middle?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-04-25 02:02:17 +0000 UTC]

ooooohhhhhhh
When you select that song on its respective keyframe, you'll notice a pencil icon in the Properties menu. Click that to see a wavelength of the song. You can trim it, lower the audio on one side or shorten it to your heart's desire. The other long way to do it is in Audacity.

ok, I'm saving it as flash 5, but when I preview it, the vcam and the button don't work. How do i fix that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-04-25 23:14:15 +0000 UTC]

Flash 5? There's an older version before Flash 8? e.o
I'm pretty sure that version wouldn't have ActionScript 2.0 if that was the case, so you're basically screwed unless you use a better version.

BoltBlades12 In reply to AssassinKnight-47 [2015-04-25 23:17:18 +0000 UTC]

wait, never mind. I found the problem. It was switched on actionscript 1 for exporting so I changed it to 2

That's odd. The vcam worked fine for my other video. What's going on? I'm using CS3

How do you get the characters to hold objects? You know, like apples and other items?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-04-12 00:06:49 +0000 UTC]

Same fashion like you would with any other symbol, except instead of placing them on the ground, you place them in front/above their hands.

How do I do a bounce? You know, when one character is at one pose and when they do something like "*sigh*" and they move while doing that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-04-06 00:40:03 +0000 UTC]

Two keyframes, tween like usual, then at the second keyframe, use the transform tool and "thin" it by clicking the top centre square and dragging it downwards.

BoltBlades12 In reply to AssassinKnight-47 [2015-04-06 00:41:34 +0000 UTC]

So I stretch a sprite to where it's thinner on the first few frames, then I stretch it back to where it was originally?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-04-06 00:43:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, or I'd cut a corner and copy the first keyframe's sprite and Ctrl Shift V it there.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BoltBlades12 In reply to AssassinKnight-47 [2015-04-06 00:44:15 +0000 UTC]

oh, so I can copy the ones I stretch then reverse them?

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-04-06 02:05:03 +0000 UTC]

Same thing. It doesn't affect the animation of whatever symbol it is.

For some odd reason, when I put my swf file in the submission, it says it's not a flash file. How do I get my video on to dA?

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-04-05 00:28:24 +0000 UTC]

Yasure it's the .swf you're uploading, not the .fla?
Made the category to Flash > Animations?

Hm, that's actually not bad for your first video.
I would recommend you add more frames to when he's talking, since I had to skip back a few seconds just to read what he was saying. I'd also suggest using sounds other than Dragon Ball Z, but then again, finding good sound effects is hard anyway. Overall, I'm impressed.

So when I open my animation up, it shows a layer and when I click it twice, it opens up to show the animation. Is that right or did I screw something up?

BoltBlades12 In reply to ??? [2015-03-29 20:45:49 +0000 UTC]

How exactly do i post my video then? I finished the best I could and want to upload it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-03-30 01:19:10 +0000 UTC]

Ctrl Enter to export as SWF, then upload that SWF.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BoltBlades12 In reply to AssassinKnight-47 [2015-03-30 12:11:26 +0000 UTC]

does it work for youtube also?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AssassinKnight-47 In reply to BoltBlades12 [2015-03-30 12:12:06 +0000 UTC]

You need to install Swivel, which converts SWFs to a video format, which then you can upload to YouTube.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

BoltBlades12 In reply to AssassinKnight-47 [2015-03-30 12:14:06 +0000 UTC]

so do I have to do that to post them to deviantart also or is that just for youtube?
