Ok, so, this might be a really stupid question, but I just began creating a few days ago and I am totally clueless.

Can you upload this as a product on IMVU as opposed to the templates you can derive from?
And just because I can't find answers elsewhere, maybe you can help me. What is the purpose of deriving from other products (not the ones that IMVU provides) if you can't edit them on Gimp of Photoshop? And if you can, how do yo download them to your computer?

Sorry if I'm being a bother, but I hope you can help. :3

Sorry for the VERY late reply. So actually, we derive the product's mesh to act as our base in our product. For example you need to make an eye product, you just derive another derivable eye product and you just edit the texture by your own. And actually, we can download them into our computer. We can open various mesh types by imvu previewer or the new IMVU 3D previewer. Meshes can be downloaded in various sites that allows them to be download or they just give the derivation code.

Hope I helped.
