Weight: About three hundred pounds. Relies on magic to fly.

Dislikes: Hostile magic, being trapped, inflexible minds, avocados.

Personality: Aethis is friendly, but a little awkward, if anything. They speak rather formally. They value politeness and tolerance, and would rather ask questions rather than talk down to people of other species. They try to be kind, but their personal needs and goals can often mar any good intentions.

They are very decisive and can be rash or impulsive as a result. Their pragmatism and priorities can play into this, and their ultimate priority is the peak. They aren't afraid to play dirty. They have no qualms against fighting and may even seriously injure an opponent, but not to the point where it will kill them. They view sentient life as very important.

History: Aethis lives in a mountain range to the southeast of Bluff's mountain; their home is one of the last magical mountain ranges to exist, if it isn't the last. As far as the gryphons know, it's also the only one suitable for their safety and lifestyle.
Aethis was one of the few gryphons that regularly interacted with humans, who lived in remote settlements specked around their mountains and offered sources of trade. Aethis's home, however, is finally losing its magic, which the gryphon race needs to survive. The majority of the gryphons are reclusive, even xenophobic, and have resigned themselves to their inevitable fates.
Aethis did not.
Their goal is to replenish the magic or find another home before the mountain range drains. Replenishing is preferred, because Aethis does not believe they can convince their entire village to move to an unknown place. After receiving Bluff's invite, Aethis has left to see if the wish could save them all...

Strengths: They're a lion-eagle hybrid; they're inherently stronger than the average human. They have sharp talons and a strong, pointed beak. Their eyesight is very keen, as any eagle's should be, and they can fly. Aethis also lives on mountains, and therefore will be more resistant to the harsh conditions of Bluff's mountain. They have a built-in resistance against subtle magic and can sense magic (more under Ability).

Weaknesses: They are heavy and lack agility. They can grasp things with their front claws, but are not dexterous. They have no ranged attacks. They are more susceptible to physical/active magic.

Damaging things like fireballs will also harm their magical core. Enough damage will disrupt their abilities until they can heal. (Temporary or non-damaging physical magic like telekinesis will not damage them, but enough can still disrupt their abilities for a while.)

Ability: Gryphons are subtly magical. It's necessary for flight, speech and general life.

They have a resistance to passive magic. For instance, they would have an easier time resisting sleep spells, fighting off mind control, and seeing through weak illusions.

They can sense magic levels. This does not work like a radar as much as it does an indicator. Aethis can feel whether magic in a person or object is different from the norm, i.e. unstable, demonic, etc. They can tell the difference between magic. For example: a firecaster will feel different from an illusionist, but they will not be able to tell that person is a firecaster or illusionist. The mountain's magic is a constant for them, but they aren't bothered by it.
If an object or person's magic is exceptionally strong, they will be able to sense it like a radar. The stronger the magic is, the further this ability extends.

Lastly, they don't speak physically, but with a sort of telepathy. It's only one way/projecting, and works like a regular voice does, but is not marred by sound (though it can be obstructed by certain magic). They cannot choose who can hear them or not (like with regular speaking), but they can communicate with animals this way as well, and that goes unheard to anyone who can't also speak to animals.

Other:
-Their claws change color in a poisoned drink, and their feathers can cure blindness, like gryphons in most myths.
-The inherent dislike of horses is also from mythology. Aethis tries to be more diplomatic about this, though. Aethis tries to be more diplomatic in general.
-Gryphons typically eat meat, but Aethis's group have conditioned diets. They're omnivorous but prefer meat. They can also eat it raw without much repercussion, but prefer it cooked.
-They can carry a human on their back! But it's pretty difficult to fly with an adult.
