Description
I have been working on Iktomi since before the "fur replacement tutorial!" 3/11I hand carved his headform from the neck scrap from a used coyote ped. form
Completed: head 4/25/11, body ?/?/11(still requires a small amount of work)
Name: Iktomi, Lakota for "trickster spirit"
Type of work: Soft Mount Taxidermy
YES: all but tail is armatured, his hind quarters boast my new armature formula
No: posable ears
WIP: cosmedic work needs to be done on feet ie. pads, nails, & face
WIP: Containment Weighted to be added
NO: floppily stuffed? - No, he is stuffed hard, he is a "soft mounted life size" - not nearly floppy enough to pose in a sleeping position - by choice
Eyes: coyote eyes
Type of coyote: mature male, from northern PA, wild, population control, LEGALLY HARVESTED
Where did you get his pelt ?: from a hunter/seller who prepped the hide for taxidermy and had it pro tanned, clearance item
SIZE: About the size of your typical lab dog. May have weighed as much as 48 pounds before he was taken, possibly more. Estimated AGE: 5+ years old before taken
LENGTH: after tanning 44" from tip of nose to end of rump
WHY do you call him a "Soft Mount Taxidermy": He has a traditionally mounted and carved by me taxidermy head form, and taxidermy glass eyes. However the rest of his body is lovingly stuffed mainly for erect, lying down display.
Notes: his ears look 'glued on' because I tied the leather cord of the feathers around the base of his ears. In addition, he is anotomically correct, scrotum/testicals, and anus. Other then his head, no other part was hydrated. He was sewn dry. His hide was VERY thick in places, and with the work that needed to be done, I didn't want to deal with what would later become stiff. It took me 7 straight hours to make and install his leg armature(including the upper body), sew, weight and stuff all of of his legs as well. He has noteable hip, ankle, and knee joints, that move and 'flex.' The rest of his upper body armature is posable in the traditional way. He has NO spine.
His Shaman garb was also made by me using coyote bone and claw, along with turquoise, wood, agate, and a few other semi pres. stones. I did cut, and hand drill several of the 'beads.'

Whoops! You did ask me that once before - I don't know how I let that slide. If it's my pelt, about $380.00usd, that's for a taxi quality red fox pelt that runs me about $120.00 plus about 10$ for priority shipping to get it to me quick... if it's your pelt, $260.00 with 'the works' package. That includes: My new formula of leg armature, weighted feet and body. Annnnd your choice of premade eyes, I'll send you two links to the eyes I like to use when you need them. (I don't take special orders on the commissioned eyes because it takes a month or more to get them made and shipped to me.)I can get a fox finished and mailed home to you in less then a month. XD I hope this helps. Thanks for asking!! p.s. I didn't check to see where your located, but I don't ship out side of the U.S.

Oh wow, this pic of him is even better than the ones you showed me earlier. Love the addition of the beads. I'm still thinking of drawing in a few extra feathers.
I still am certain that he's a hybrid mix of some sort, he's just too big to be a normal yote. That and his coloration is simply stunning. I'd love to see a pic of him and Windseeker together in the shade of the trees or something.

They were in the first pic, but got obsecured due to the straight on angle, and slight pixelation. :^/ But they suit him, don't they!
I have been working on Enny for the past 2.5 hours. His left eye set at an awkard angle despite my efforts to correct it during dry time, (i always have issues with that eye XD) so I rehydrated the area and hopefully fixed the issue. Everything else has been painted, and all of his other pins have been removed beforehand and he is flippin adorable and totally dry otherwise! I soooo badly wanna show him to you!!! I love those eyes on him too. Subtle in all lighting!!
His right ear also shifted, but I don't think that is going to be a problem to fix either, and I won't have to hydrate anything there. I also made his weighted sack so when the time comes, it won't take long to complete him. I am just waiting for the eye to dry again so I can install it without worry. His eye isn't soaking, so it should be dry by this time tomorrow. I'll be babysitting it like a hawk as much as possible to make sure it doesn't get goofy again, and hopefully I can remove the pins tomorrow, and finish that eye's detail too. I'll send you pix too, or let you know if I can't pull the pins or not. I don't wanna be too hasty. The longer they stay, the better to dry, so nothing goes wrong... but I'll keep you updated either way. He is only a few hours away from being loveable!!

Yay! How exciting! I can't wait to see pictures of him without a face full of pins. I'm practically dying to see him in all his glory, even more so to be able to hold him again. But I'm a patient fellow.
I really do appreciate everything you've done on him! I bet he looks lovable whether or not his eye is a bit goofy. We all have little quirks we can seem to get right, ya know? I can't wait to see how his eyes turn out, mainly just because of how gentle they are color wise. It's not boring or in your face staring you down. Either way I think you've done an amazing job and I'm anxious to see the results~
I agree that Iktomi's feathers suit him very well! He's just gorgeous!
