Description
The MCV 40 is a Cavalry Support Vehicle in use by the Kepler Coure Du Armiya to provide heavy anti infantry and light armored vehicle support as a companion vehicle and unit for MBT divisions using the hardy ALTAIR MBT. So much so, that the Daichan shares the same base chassis, controls, engine, and many spare parts with the MBT that it is based on to streamline logistics and simplify repair tasks for divisional engineering and maintenance personnel.

Notable features of the Daichan are its armament, protection systems, crew use, and power plant.

Firstly for armament, the Daichan is equipped with the same style of 40mm Autocannon as used on the Matador IFV, able to provide serious anti infantry and light to medium armor firepower with a multitude of ammunition types ranging from airburst to discarding sabot rounds. It is also equipped with a side by side 130mm missile launcher mounted above the main gun that is able to be automatically loaded from the inside to provide much heavier anti tank firepower. Additional armaments include an optional RIWS mount that can take a 4.5 or an 8.5mm machinegun, and the standard coaxial 8.5mm.

Protection systems is an area where the Daichan shines, not only is it still equipped with the formidable composite armor and all around APS as found on its MBT brother, but also it mounts optional composite / NERA components on its side skirts, turret, and hull sides to increase overall protection from chemical shaped charge warheads. The frontal turret is equipped with a similar ERA system as with the ALTAIR designed to normalize kinetic and chemical projectiles up and over the turret front.

Crew ergonomics are in essence the same as with the ALTAIR, the gunner and commander are in the turret with the commander sitting behind the gunner, and the driver sitting in the middle of the hull. Not much was changed in terms of what was present with the MBT as to make it easier and more familiar for crews transferring over to the new vehicle.

As with the ALTAIR chassis, the Daichan uses the same multi fuel turbine that charges the electrical system to drive the tank for an optimal arrangement of torque and power needed to quickly traverse the battlefield.
