Yup. He's dead via getting his shadow ripped apart, although I'm bemused that Captain Moriarty's shadow beast kept it attached to the victim.

If you look closely you might notice how little of his real neck we see. Chances of his head seperating is actually there.

Hmm… you mean his head separating from his physical body? I thought it would just be as if his neck had snapped. He would drop lifeless onto the deck as his shadow screamed in agony.

It is possible. not saying Atsyrc would actually do it, but you know, leave all possibilities open and what not
and I don't think his shadow can scream anymore.. xP not that shadows are known to do so in the first place

Well, I've heard it said in some circles "The shadow is where the soul sleeps." Anything that happens to it will happen to its owner, a bit like a voodoo doll if you believe in that sort of thing. And if it separated from the body, it is the same as having one's life force ripped from them; the body cannot survive without the soul.
