Description
I got Red Dead Redemption for my birthday, last July. I almost didn't know anything about the game. All I knew was that is was a wild west game and a third person shooter. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but when I got to play it, I was very surprised, and in a very good way. I did not expect the game to be so good. I expected something more like GTA: not much of a storyline, and the point of the game being to act bad.I certainly did not expect to get so attached to John Marston, the main character. Instead of a shallow douchebag like one would expect from a wild west outlaw, I was introduced to a deep and unique character, with a unique and lovable personality and a fascinating and mysterious past. When you look at him the first time, you expect him to be a cold hearted bastard without much of a personality. Instead, you get a caring family man who is ready to anything to protect his family and atone for his crimes. I simply adored the way that when you look at him, he looks like a heartless and angry man and that he is actually so gentle inside.
''People don't forget. Nothing gets forgiven.''
I decided to draw this portrait as homage to a character who is now amongst my favourite game characters. Inspired by a screenshot, I choose to draw him like this because I think I shows both his bloody past of violence (with the scars) and his softer, human side, with his calm, soft and pondering look.
When I draw portraits, I usually start with the darkest colors. For this one, once I finished the black spots I though it already looked very good, and I actually though I would look best if I let it like this. With extra-sharp contrast, very much like the character himself is a man on contrast.
This was done entirely traditionally except for a little darkening and watercolour with Photoshop.

Superbly done! I love how you used thick lines, as well as thin ones, and that this is black and white. Simplistic but beautiful style!

I though it looked better like this than it would have with many shades of gray.

Indeed, she is a bad-ass. I have an unhealthy obsession with AC and Ezio.
And with Red Dead, too.
